THE STORY OF LOUISIANA Great Worlds Fair Success Ccm ing to Capital Theatre ToKi ht Act 1 The Prophesy The I opening scone discloses the wilderness of Louisiana and shows a band of Indian warriors supplicating the Great Spirit to show them the future of the territory of Louisiana The voicesof I maidens are hoard in the distance I and anon a band of Indian maid ells appear and join in the song Pontiac and other chieftains and medicine men enter and add their voices to the supplication As the song closes they join in a aroundt 1the fire which is interrupted by another band of Indian maidens who perform an Indian ballet 4Two grotesque medicine men enter I I and relate the story of their troubles following which come Pontiac and a band of Pocahontas maidens who sing a song of the I far Dakptah Music is heard in the distance and a band of I pathfinders enter followed by fBrother Jonathan Miss Columbia I Davy Crockett Miss Dixie and the American eagle They describe their wanderings and are interrupted by the appearance of a grotesque traveler who entertains them Davy Crockett shows his skill with the rifle and the Indians return and smoke the pipe of peace The incantation is resumed and the Indians and white men see a vision of the future of Louisiana So entrancing is it that Brother Jonathan decides togo to France and purchase the I territory from Napoleon He and his party embark upon the Mississippi for New Orleans and thence to France Act II The Purchase This act finds Brother Jonathan Miss Columbia and their party in France The opening scene shows the grounds at Versailles and a grand fete in progress in honor of the arrival of the Americans The festivities begin with the ballet of the flowers and a general jollification A company of gondo gondoI I liers enter and hail those on the landrrho merrymaking continues and Davy Crockett and Miss Dixie appear out for a good time A band of gendarmes and others enter and quiet the revellers and then comes Brother andI Miss Columbia James Monroe and Robert Livingston The latter explains that Napoleon will soon receive them While they i are waiting Columbia entertains I with a song and Brother Jonathan I is caught by a party of French girls out on a lark As they all depart a gendarme and the gro tesque traveler enter assisting Davy Crockett to rejoin his I friendsrrhe scene changes to I the court of Napoleon all the historical members of which enter and art entertained by a stately court dance The Amer leans are ushered in and state 0 their business namely to purchase the territory of Louisiana The sale is made and the Amer icons are presented with a huge rose symbolizing the transfer Louisiana appears and Columbia throwing the stars and stripes about her receives her into the great sisterhood of States She is placed in the State barge and the Americans sail away for home Act Ill The Fulfillment This act takes place in St Louisa hundred years later and shows Uncle Sam Columbia and their fortynine nieces receiving all the world It shows how the territory I of Louisiana has grown to I fourteen sovereign States and in a brief manner indicate some Itml i thing of the great
