as No 3 Auburn ground out a 35 23 victory over seventh ranked Maryland in a top intersectio nal matchup Saturday Maryland quarterback Boomer Esiason threw three touchdown passes scoring strikes of 10 yards to Sean Sullivan and 14 yards to Greg Hill in a third quarter rally and a 40 yard bomb to Russell Davis in the fourth quarter But Bo Jackson bulled over from the 5 for one fourth quarter score giving the lead back to the Tigers at 21 17 And then Agee sprinted 44 yards for what proved to be the clincher with five minutes left Auburn defensive tackle Donnie Humphrey fell on an Esiason fumble in the end zone for final score with 9 seconds remaining in the game The victory raised record to 8 1 as it heads into its final Southeastern Conference show downs against No 4 Georgia and No 19 ninth ranked Gators Saturday scoring run with 13:18 to play capped a 99 yard drive for a sputtering Bulldog attack that had netted only 96 yards for almost three quarters The Gators losing to Georgia for the sixth year in a row had dominated the game until the winning drive lorida drove inside the Georgia 25 yard line six times but had to settle for a trio of field goals by Bobby Raymond that touchdown passes to Rich Hollins and West Virginia scored on four of its first six possessions Saturday as the 17th ranked Mountaineers bounced back from a two game losing streak to beat Temple 27 9 West Virginia 7 2 kept its bowl hopes alive as Hostetler completed 14 of 23 passes for 175 yards including scoring passes of 5 and 44 yards to Hollins a senior split end The Mountaineer running attack record to 6 2 overall and 4 1 in the nationally televised thriller despite a record 344 yard passing game by LSU sophomore Jeff Wickersham The loss dropped LSU to 0 4 in the SEC and 3 6 overall Leading 17 10 entering the final quarter Lewis threw a 7 yard scoring pass to Joey Jones with 10:42 to play to give the Tide a 24 10 lead But in the next nine minutes 24 more points were scored and lead Virginia Tech to a 26 10 college football victory over Tulane Saturday Virginia Tech led all the way taking a 6 0 lead off first score and adding a 26 yard field goal by Don Wade to widen the lead to 9 0 before Tulane got on the boards After Tulane narrowed the gap to 16 10 early in the fourth quarter Cox put it out of reach with his 55 yard scoring toss to Steve Ellsworth Virginia Tech is over Indiana and extending the unbeaten string against the Hoosiers to 28 games first two touchdowns came as Ohio State raced to a comfortable 28 3 halftime lead The Hoosiers unable to move on the ground had to rely on the passing of quarterback Steve Bradley But the Indiana sophomore was intercepted three times each one leading to a touchdown run by Byars Ohio State got its first touchdown three minutes into the game on a 44 yard pass from quarterback Mike Tomczak to Thad Jemison Indiana then had the ball less than a minute before Orlando Lowry's interception gave the Buckeyes the ball giving the Hurricanes a first down at the 13 The touchdown six plays later gave the Hurri canes a school record ninth straight victory after an opening loss while East Carolina dropped to 6 3 all three losses to lorida teams Clemson 16 Carolina 3 CHAPEL HILL NC (AP) Bob Paulling kicked three field goals and Mike Eppley tossed a third quarter touchdown pass to guide Clemson to a 16 3 victory conversion shorting out a stunning 19 point Arizona comeback as the 20th ranked Washington Huskies survived 23 22 Saturday night in a key Pacific 10 Conference football contest Arizona quarterback Tom Tunnicliffe hit tailback Vance Johnson on a 34 yard touchdown pass with 2:53 remaining to bring the within one point But Tunnicliffe was injured on the pass and Jackson broke up a conversion pass thrown by replacement quar terback Alfred Jenkins Earlier Jackson intercepted two Tunnicliffe passes that accounted for 10 Washington points on a 66 yard touchdown run and another that set up one of
