Telegraph Tuesday, August 17, 1976 Colorado Springs, Colo. ury Selection Is Underway AURORA (AP) Jury selection began Monday in the murder trial of 27-year-old Ronald Steven Montgomery, charged with the Dec. 18 shootiing of a Colorado State Patrolman. The trial was moved from Elbert County to Arapahoe County on a change of venue because of pre-trial news coverage. Montgomery and two companions were arrested near Calhan three hours atter Patrolman Michael James was found shot to death near his car on U.S.

24 west of Limon, At a preliminary hearing for Montgomery, a narcotics agent testified that the three men were fleeing the site of an alleged drug transaction at the time their truck was stopped by James for illegal passing. Montgomery was brought to Arapahoe County from the Colorado State Penitentiary, where he is serving a mandatory life sentence after being declared a habitual criminal May 24 by a Colorado Springs judge.
