DECATUR Herald and Review Sealab 2 Gets New Crewmen After 15 Days La Jolla, Calif. (AP) Operation crew-switch got under way in the Navy's Sealab 2 Sunday 205 feet below the ocean's surface. Three members of a fresh crew of nine aquanauts swam down from a staging vessel and entered the 12x58-foot steel capsule. A spokesman said, "We have no word of any problems." Later, nine men who have been in the capsule 15 days were to enter a pressurized transfer tank and be hoisted in a five-minute ride to the deck of the vessel, the Berkone. There the transfer tank would be mated to a decompression chamber in which the men will wait about 36 hours while the pressure is slowly duced to that of sea level.

The other six members of team No. 2 were to enter Sealab 2 after team No. 1 reached the surface. The second team, too, will stay below 15 days, in company with astronaut M. Scott Carpenter.

He has been down 15 days and plans to stay 30. A third team later will replace the second in the 45-day experiment, the Navy's most ambitious underwater living project. Its primary purpose is to determine whether man can live and work in the hostile environment of ocean depths. Since Aug. 28 the first crew has kept busy in and about the deep-sea den a thousand yards off the shore of this scenic Southern California resort.

The aquanauts have ventured forth to chart movements of ocean currents and sediment. They have set up an oceanbottom weather station to see if there is a correlation between surface weather and recordings below. Probably the most important benefit of the experiment, a Navy spokesman said, would be to that deep-water salvage and rescue operations are possible after submarine, ship or plane disasters. The match, as all of those played by the U. S. grand master, was conducted by cable with Fischer making his moves in New York.
