Among active issues Occidental Petroleum was up y8 to 11. The issue has been gaining for several days after announcing a major oil discovery off the coast of Nigeria. Gulf Oil also was ahead to 24. RdA was off y4 to 32. The Big Board index of more than 1,400 common stocks was ahead .22 to 58.98.

Soybeans, Wheat Carry Fractional Advances Chicago (AP) Soybeans and wheat futures carried fractional increases through the first hour of trading on the Chicago Board of Trade today. There were mixed price trends within a narrow range in slack trading in the corn and oats pits. Soybean oil prices crept a few points upward while soy meal prices dropped 20 to 35 points. Traders showed little interest In iced broilers and the few sales were at slightly lower prices than Thursday's close. After about an hour, wheat was to cent a bushel higher, July 1.49; corn was Vt lower to higher, July 1.25; oats were lower to Vi higher, July 75 cents and soybeans were to 7s higher, July 3.47.
