Clinton Blames Administration For inflation FORT SMITH. Ark. (AP) -Congressional candidate Bill Clinton said Monday that tha economic and political policies of the federal administration were the major cause of in- f l a t i o n . Therefore, Clinton, a Democrat. concluded that his opponent, Rep. John Paul Hammerschmidt, R-Ark., was to blame because "he has supporter! the policies of this administration . even more than the average Republican member of Congress. "These policies, including the massive grain giveaways and ;he opposition to a rollback in the price of oil and gasoline, have contributed greatly to our economic misery." Clinton contended at a news conference. "My opponent seems to ba following the old administration policy of WIN fjultons for ths average citizen and windfalls for the .oil companies, shipbuilders and international grain dealers." The 28-year-old law professor also said Hammerschmidt had voted consistently to give up power over the federal budget to the executive branch u n t i l the last session of Congress. "Then, he joined with 95 per cent of the Congress to support the Budget Control Act of 1974 designed to · return fiscal responsibility and congressional 'ersight to the budgetary rocess," Clinton said. Clinton said it was "easy to ote w i t h 95 per cent of Ihe ongress in response to popular ressnre for f i n a n c i a l responsibly," but contended that-"be- re the people started looking, e (Hammerschmidt) was vot- ng exactly the other way." Clinton said he had tried dur- ng the campaign to "present 1C problems, my position ant} my opponent's record. "My opponent's response ha3 nly been personal assault and lainis that I have misrepre- ented his record," Clinton aid. All seasons wardrobe! Se\ pantsuit in any of five slim young versions.
