They didn't have heavy problems. They danced, and dragged Main Street, and necked up a storm and had fun. And (he girls' clothes were really cute: bobby sox, circular skirts, saddle shoes..comforatble looking. No person who Is out of school, with a good job, and wants us to gel married. (I'll be 18 next month and he's near 20.) He said I could finish school, no problem there. If I run away and gel married, my folks will hate mo even more than they do now. Now, look at us in 1974: Cloddy shoes that would turn your ankle it you tried to bop. Panty hose Unit get snagged and run. Wide-legged pants you trip over. And won't mention juys who figure any date should wind up in somebody's apartment bedroom. The other night we had a 'back to the '50's party" with our parents and everybody wearing clothes to match; It was super. I danced with my girlfriends' fathers and they made my boyfriends look like they were standing stilK The next day some of us girls decided to wear bobby sox and saddle shoes to school; with accordion-pleated skirts. It was wild. About half the girls in our class finally went along with us, .and this week, even more are joining our "Fit- tease." Trouble · is: finding skirls, crepe-soled saddles, and sox. There's been a run on the small stock our stores carry. But they're ordering more. Also, we're taking dance lessons from . some of the eachers who were teens in the 50s. The guys aren't changing their pants styles (try finding those floppy 50s numbers!), but more and more they're going 'or the haircut Ron Howard wears in "Happy Days." I don't know whether this is happening other places or not but I thought I'd let you know we have a new trend in our town--and like it!!--CLASS OF ·76 DEAR '76: One thing for sure: bobby sox and saddles were just about the most comfortable foot gear ever devised. No wonder the kids conld dance up a storm back then. Good luck to the "Fit- tease," and may your stores krep the supplies coming.-Helen DEAR "BOBBY": I hear "dancing cheek to cheek" is back again in many areas. Sounds like furi, but b o p p i n ' or trucking' or whatever you call it doesn't look easy to earn. Think I'll start on a simple foxtrot. Let us know if your new-old styles keep moving.--SUE RAP: Two years ago, when I was 15, I got pregnant. My folks wanted me to have an abortion, but I refused, saying it was immoral and they were hypocrites of their religion. My father went into a rage and heat me so bad I lost the baby. They sent me away to a strict girls school and it was pure Hell, except when letters came from my boyfriend (the baby's father). Now I'm back home and life is still miserable.
