changed with out fanfare to more accurately represent the broader service area so that it now is officially Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA Steinbronn explained Steinbronn said one of the most important things that the YMCA board did when he first came was to hold a retreat to put together a strategic plan and an annual business plan that not be just a docu ment collecting dust but would be used to evaluate the board and my he said YMCA has grown faster than Steinbronn said had 1500 members four years ago and now there are 5000 Our operating bud get has gone from $800000 a year to $25 million The staff has grown from 45 to 150 full and part time employees we are collaborating with more agencies than ever And now Steinbronn is look ing forward to working with people in Atlantic and Cape May counties as well as Cumberland to provide the services they want He said he has met with a committee from Galloway Township in Atlantic County and has been getting inquiries from Lower Township Cape May County The YMCA does not always need its own facility according to Steinbronn It has had YMCA programs in high schools churches and at busi ness sites have added 125 pro grams for youths to adults being responsive to what tire community Steinbronn said He added that a major prior ity has been focusing on youth and family programs planning joint activities they can do together In society a lack of family time and Steinbronn said the YMCA is trying hard to get families together Programs that have particu larly attracted people to the YMCA are youth programs adult fitness programs and day care Steinbronn said A lot of people realize it but the YMCAs in the United States have become the largest providers of child care and one of the largest charitable orga nizations Steinbronn empha sized
