The American secretary, on his sixth Middle East peace mission since the October war a year ago, indicated Thursday night after a 2'/4 - hour session with Sadat that the opposing sides remain far from agreement on peace negotiations. Asked about resuming discussions at Geneva, Kissinger told newsmen, "We are at the beginning of the trip, and we have to go to many other countries before I can answer that." Sadat also hedged on the subject. He Eaid, "We have discussed that in broad outlines" but added that details haven't been worked out. Egypt and Israel have Indicated they are willing to negotiate another Israeli pullback in the Sinai Desert, but Kissinger reiterated that he does not expect his trip to bring a dramatic breakthrough. He said, however, the trip should "contribute to peace in the Middle East. I was encouraged with the (Sadat) talk.. Kissinger conveyed to Sadat Israel's insistence that further withdrawal in the Sinai must be coupled with a pledge from Ihe Arabs to end their economic and diplomatic boycott of the Jewish state. Informed sources said there appeared three other key stumbling blocks: the Palestinian desire for nationhood; the Arabs' attitude against a non- aggression treaty; and how to tie nonbelligerency to further Israeli pullbacks, including on the West Bank of the Jordan Kiver. Hew Phone Books Due Ocf. 17 Delivery of the 1974 Fayetteville telephone directory is scheduled to begin Oct. 17 and continue through Oct. 25. Telephone listings for Springdale and other surrounding towns are also included. "More than 41,150 copies of the new directory will be delivered to customers," Manager George Holland of Southwestern Bell said. "However, residence customers with more than one telephone will receive fewer copies of the directory this year due to Ihe natomvide paper shortage. There will be no re- ducton in the number of directories delivered to businesses." Residential customers who need additional directories can order them with a post card they'll find inside the new directory, the manager said. "We don't pick up old direc- tries because of the large expense involved," Holland said. "But we would encourage customers to see if any organization is collecting scrap paper for recycling before they pitch the old phone books. We use special printing processes to insure telephone directories can be recycled." The manager requested customers not contact the business office about directory delivery until after Oct. 25. since it will take until then to complete delivery.
