The $124,000 prize was shared equally by British-born Christian de Duve, 57, who works at Rockefeller University in New York City: George E. Palade, 62, a native of Romania who heads the cell biology section at Yale University's School of Medicine; and Albert Claude, 75, director of the Institut Jules Bordet at Ihe Universite Libre in Brussels. Claude was 'born in Luxembourg. The awarding body, the Royal Caroline Institute, cited Hie three for "their discoveries concerning the structural and functional organization of the cell." The Senate Wednesday to military aid hours later, presidential veto, agreed to "a resolution that would allow President Ford to suspend lha ban until Dec. 15. The resolution, offe- -v Senate Majority Leadc r Mansfield, was sent . House, which already lu; p- proved the arms cutoff. The Turkey arms prohibition contained in a continuing money resolution that provides funds for Foreign and other federal programs, for which regular annual appropriations have not been approved yet. ABC Board Revises Licensing Policy LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- The Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Board adopted a massive revision of the liquor licensing regulations Wednesday. Most of the changes are directed at private club operations. The 3-0 vole for adoption came over the objections of the Arkansas Retail Liquor Dealers Association, whose attorney demanded that a public hearing be held on the proposals. The attorney, Charles Matthews of Little Rock, said the revised regulations had been modified since they were advertised and reviewed by a Legislative Council committee last winter. He said a copy of the modifications had not been made available to the association. Matthews also complained t h a t action on the regulations was not on the agenda of Wednesday's board meeting. He hinted that the association would go to court in the hope of getting a public hearing on the regulations. But, he later told reporters that h e knew o n l y t h a t the retail liquor dealers were considering legal action. Proposed Cattle Slaughter Reset NACOGDOCHES, Tex. (AP) -- Only a personal conference vith President Ford will stop a iroposed cattle slaughter in rotest of the high cost of rais- ng beet, a group of East Texas ranchers say. Meanwhile, an Agriculture Department spokesman told some Texas ranchers in Wash- ngton on Wednesday that there might be a little profit for stockmen by next spring, but not before. Steve Burgess, who raises Santa Gertrudis beef cattle j u s t east of here, said Wednesday night about 500 head of dairy and beef calves have been pledged for slaughter and- lie expects that number to reach 1,000 by next Wednesday, tha date for the slaughter. Wednesday is also the end of a two-week deadline which Stcphenville area ranchers and dairy farmers gave Ford after they postponed a protest slaughter of 1,000 dairy calves. They also seek a personal meeting. The cattlemen say they can't afford to raise the calves to maturity because of rising grain prices. Many of the calves the Slephenville ranch' ers and dairymen threatened to slaughter last week were sickly dairy calves, not well-fed beef animals which could be sold for veal.
