16 Northwest Arkansas TIMES, Man., Sept. 16, 1974 FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS ABC Debuts Virtuous Family Show In'The New Land' By JAY SHAUBUTT NEW YORK (AP) - ABC, once highly regarded by violence fans for the gore and gun- smoke of its shows, has joined TV's new craze for warm, virtuous families. I have reference, to ABC's "The New Land" series. The show is about a sturdy Scandinavian clan which, seeing no fjord in its future, settles on the Minnesota prairie in 1858. The clan is well ahead of NBC's "Little House on Hie Prairie" mob; that crew got on TV first, but didn't move to rural Minnesota until 1878. Despite the age difference. "The New Land," which premiered last Saturday night, apparently shares not only the land but also the same ox mis cries as the family on the NBC show. Those who saw the "Little House" opening will recall, that Charles Ingalls almost lost his yoke of oxen lo a hard-hearlec merchant. "The New Land' took lhe yoke one step further. Lightning struck the barn o! settlers Christian and Anna Larsen, set it ablaze and in no time at all the barn and the two oxen within were burn down. This was bad news for Chris tian, who needed the oxen t haul lumber to a freight, com any with which he had a con- act. A proud man, he rejected charity offer of new oxen ·oin a neighbor, Johanson. Then he met a Mormon farms' possessed of more oxen than , needed. He made a deal lo ive the Mormons a piece of and in exchange for the ani- lals. Then Johanson told a own meeting of Scandinavians :io Mormons would have to cave, as they were of the vrong heritage and would ruin he neighborhood. But it all mded happily, Ja. Ja, diss yass as bad as il ounded and ja. ve are vilh- lolding de names of cast mem- ers to protect de innocent And (ley all are. Luxury Liner Is Towed To Harbor KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) -- Of- icials were slill silting through he chnrrcd debris in the cruise ship Cunavd Ambassador today, .rying to determine a damage estimate for the $27 million luxury liner. It will lake several days be Core even a guess figure on damages can be arrived at," said John Bown, vice president of Cunard, Lines Ltd., owner of ;he vessel. "From looking . at the outside, you'd never dream [here was so much damage on the inside." The luxury liner sal at a four-degree lisl at a dock in Key West harbor, where it was towed by two commercial tugs late Sunday. Bown said it would take "days rather than weeks" to move the ship to either a U.S. or European shipyard for repairs he estimated would lake several months. ADVERTISEMENT -- Mercury Vapor Suspected In Gas Explosion GRIFFITH. Ind. (AP) -massive gas explosion that sen flames higli into the sky ove this northwestern Indiana com -raunity may have been louche off by a shattered mercury va pin- light, officials said Sunday David Kem, regional man ager for Continental Oil Co said the light was used lo i luminate a 100-foot geyser of 1 quefied petroleum gas spewin from a large underground stor j age vault. The misty, clear gas, cooled lo 44 degrees below zero and under pressure to keep it in liquid form, began erupting about 10 p.m. Friday from a broken 14-inch pipeline used to transfer! gas into the cavern. There were no injuries. One thousand persons had been evacuated from homes here and 600 were moved in nearby Schererville. i "It exploded in a big ball of! fire that seemed lo reach the| sky," said state trooper Larry I Ba'rtley. "It belched out like Old Faithful." The explosion occurred about 6 a.m. Saturday after leaking gas had burned for more than three hours. Kem said the subzero temperatures at which lhe gas was | kept may have frozen the vapor light's glass lens, making it brittle enough to shatter and touch off the blast. The explosion scorched power · lines and trees within 100 yards of the scene but caused no oth-! er damage. Police, firemen and persons evacuated from their homes watched the explosion from a distance. Another Continental spokesman, Thomas Powell, said 250,000 barrels of the liquid gas were stored in honeycomb limestone about 600 feet below ground. He said it might be weeks before it could be determined how much of the LPG was lost. The gas began spewing from the pipeline when a flange on a valve broke while 65,000 barrels of LPG were being pumped into the shaft. Powell said the flow was cut off by water pumped down another shaft by Griffith and Merrillville volunteer firemen. Famous Scalp Specialist Tells Truth About Saving Falling Hair School Board To Meet The Fayetleville School Board will meet in regular monthly session at 7 p.m. Tuesday. These private individual consultations will be held at the Holiday Inn, 2102 N. College on Tuesday, September 17, 1974, from 1:00 to 8:30 p.m. Ask hotel clerk for Mr. ,T. .T. Wooley. He will-do the rest. Phone 443-4323. FAYETTEVILLE, Sept. IS-In an interview J. J. Wooley, nationally famous consultant for the International Hair and Scalp Specialists, Inc., said, "There are many different scalp disorders that cause most men and women to lose hair. Using common sense, a person must realize no one 1 tonic or so-called cure-all could correct all the disorders," he explained. Guaranteed "International, recognizing that most people are skeptical, offers a guarantee," Wooley said. Once a person avails himself of the International treatment his skepticism immediately disappears. You will be given a written guarantee from the beginning to end on a pro-rated basis. Hnpeless Cases · Discouraged First the International consultants are quick to tell hopeless cases that they cannot be helped. But the "hopeless" cases are few. Everyone is given a comnlete private con- sutlation lo determine the condition of his or her scalp, and cause for their hair trouble. Free Consultations This consultation is very thorough and highly technical. It requires 20 to 30 minutes. There is no charge for this consultation and no appointment is necessary. After the consultation lie or she is told the required length of treatment and how much it will cost. After starting treatment, a consultant will return to check client's progress. To provide the opportunity of having normal, healthy hair to the thousands who are desperately looking for help, the firm is sending specialists to various cities throughout the United States to conduct consultation and start home treatment. Hopeless Cases Refused No Cure All ... We have no cure-all for slick, shiny baldness. International consultants will accept only clients whose hair we feel sure will respond to treatment. They cannot help individuals who are slick bald, or the majority of cases of baldness and excessive hair loss, called male pattern baldness, where no treatment, including the International treatment, is of any value. Therefore, International will continue their policy of refusing all hopeless cases. There is one thing Wooley wants to be certain every man and woman knows. If hair appears to recede at the temples or a spot begins to show un on the crown of the head, there is something wrong and it should he given immediate attention. Hair For Lifetime "If clients follow our directions during treatment, and after they finish the course, there is no reason why they will not have hair all the rest of their lives," Wooley said. "Our firm is definitely behind (his treatment; it all depends . on the individual client's faithful observation of a few simple niles." How's Your Hair? . If it worries you, just go to the Holiday Inn, 2402 N. College, on Tuesday, September 17, 1374, from 1:00 to 8:30 p.m. Ask for J. J. Wooley. Or phone 443-4323. No appointment necessary.
