Depending on how many years the project has existed, each requires varying amounts of local and state financial participia- tion. The largest grant of $55,395 approved Thursday went to ths state Correction Department for second-year funding of tha salaries and expenses of four staff members. The General Assembly is to be asked to appropriate $68,522 next fiscal year and $67,328 in fiscal 1977 to match LEAA planning funds, with almost half of the money needed lo maintain current program levels, the commission staff said. The state's current matching amount is $45.498. 2403 North College Avenue / 442-4201 -FoyefMville J985 N. The slowdown limits th« firemen's work to fighting fires and answering calls for emergency help. McMullin salt! he planned lo recommend salary increases for all city employes in the 1975 budget, but that he did not plan to recommend specifically that the firemen receive parity pay with policemen, as the firemen are demanding. "The police officer's job haa its own special requirements, and the firefighter's job has its own special requirements," McMullin said Thursday. "Tha similarity is in the uniform." McMullin said he preferred to "not even discuss the question of parity" because it obscured his objective of seeing that "the Fire Department is fairly compensated for those responsibilities" it handles.
