ARKANSAS McLarty Is Pryor's Choice For State Demo Chairman LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Da-i vid Pryor's choice for the chairmanship of the slate Democratic party apparently is former state Kep. Mack McLarly, 28, of Little Hock, Pryor is the Democratic nominee for governor, and McLarty is his campaign treasurer. The party 'traditionally has accepted its gubernatorial nominee's recommendation for the state chairmanship. The new chairman will be chosen this year for Ihe first time under a procedure adopted two years ago. Still, though, it appears likely that the gubernatorial nominee's candidate will get the job A member of the Democratic State Committee said privately Wednesday that Pryor's rccom mendation would have subslan tial weight, the Arkansas Ga zette reported today. "No one wants to cross the Democratic nominee for gover nor at this stage in his career,' the Little Rock newspapei quoted the unidentified com miltee member as saying. Some opposition to McLart) could develop on the grounc that a Little Rock advertising firm in which he is a partner is handling the campaign for proposed constilutional amend ment which would allow the re moyal of the 10 per cent limi on interest rales. AMENDMENT CAMPAIGN McLarty said he did not thin! the proposed Amendment 5 was a valid issue as far as th state chairmanship was con cerned. He said he was not "a that active" in the advertisin agency; his principal busines is automobile and truck sale and leasing. He also said h wasn't deeply involved in t h Amendment 57- campaign. Pryor said Wednesday tha he had talked with McLarl about the poslion. "He is extremely intereste in its possibilities," Pryor sai "Of course, the new Democra (Slate) Committee would be he ones who would make Ihis ecision.
