I liked her company very much, but I'm afraid I insulted her in some way I don't understand. We seemed to enjoy each other's company. I appreciated her visit so much that I wanted to show her I cared, so I sent her a small check with "thank-you" note. I meant "thank you for being my friend." Two days later I was shocked when I opened a letter from her to find the check wrapped in a plainsheet of paper, no explanation. I'm sick at heart to think I've somehow turned her against me. Please tell me where I went wrong -- Operation All Alone Dear O.A.A.: . You should have sent your friend a gift, not a check, which she probably misconstrued as "payment for services rendered",rather than the way you intended. . Women of the old school often feel that money means "purchase," while a gift means "appreciation." .· , So apologize for the misunderstanding, and ask if you may come calling. Good luck!!
