(AP) -- A special Lawrence County Grand J u r y recommended in a report issued Monday that an undercover agent be employee! :o handle'any drirg problems in ihe counts'. However, the jury, which was in session here J u n e 25, said that no indictments had been returned following its investigation of "unlawful drug activity" in the county. The grand j u r y also recommended that the expense allowances of the sheriff's deputies be increased. According to the grand j u r y report presented to Circuit Court Judge Andrew G. Ponder of Newport, 22 witnesses wore questioned. The report said lhat drug use is prevalent in Lawrence Coun- Undercover Agent ty as well as in s u r r o u n d i n communities. However, the grand ju noted lhat m a r i j u a n a is the ni or drug used and that there ittte demand for "hard drugs."
