Pcmwy Reports Fort ProWem In Austrian Bftes JC Penney has reported a potential safety problem inivol- vinft the front fork of approximately 110.000 bicycles manufactured in Austria by Junior werke Ing Franz Weiss. Manager George M. Tharel of the Penney Store Â«t Fayetteville said the problem may be present on 10-speed. 5-speed, and 3-speed men's and women's JCPenney bicycles which were sold through stores and catalogs starting in late 1972. Thare! said the problem in volves only bicycles with a "made in Austria" decal affixed to the post which supports the seat. Bicycles with chrome plated forks do not present any problem, he said. The Penney manager urged customers who have bicycles with the potential fork problem to stop riding them immediately. Hoffa Restriction / WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former White House counsel John W. Dean III says he suggested the pardon restriction that bars ex-Teamsters chief James R. Hoffa from union activities until 1980. In a deposition disclosed Tuesday, Dean testified that he recommended the stipulation in a memorandum submitted to President Nixon before Hcffa was granted executive clemency and released from federal prison Dec. 31. 1971. Hoffa, who served less than five years of a 13-year term for jury tampering and mail fraud, has filed a civil suit to lift the ban.
