REGION 4 2HEGALS Ventnor demolition delayed by appeal to county By MICHAEL PRITCHARD Staff Writer VENTNOR The Ventnor The ater has received a stay of execu tion as its owners have appealed a demolition order brought by the city Albar Inc of Pleasantville which is connected to ranks Theaters and owns the building has filed an appeal with the At lantic County Construction Board of Appeals said City Ad ministrator Charles Beirne Last month the city padlocked the building and issued a demol ish or repair order The owners had until Tuesday to either sub mit plans to repair the building or the city would move forward with demolition The company appealed the or der instead Lawyers for the com pany did not return a request for comment Tuesday Beirne said the appeal was scheduled to be heard Monday but the board did not achieve a quorum for a workshop session A new hearing date has not been set The city is now weighing its op tions in the meantime this point the demolition is blocked until we decide what we are going to Beirne said it might not be blocked We have to City officials have said they have been working with ranks since October to try to have re pairs made to the building Initially officials were con cerned with cracks in the build brick facade But further in spection showed that the building had a damaged roof and leaking water had deterio rated its steel frame officials have said Officials said they believe the repair costs would be high The theater opens only in the summer months ranks Theaters are now man aged by Hoyts Cinemas the lOth largest beating a local bar pa tron in the face with brass knuck les and a tire iron was arrested on aggravated assault charges Saturday said Detective James DeLaurentis of the Hammonton police Police folind the victim lying unconscious and outside the Choris Bar on Rail road Avenue at 2:20 am Satur day DeLaurentis said The victim was taken to Kessler Memorial Hospital where he was admitted DeLau rentis said The family later told police he will need reconstruc tive surgery DeLaurentis said police iden tified the victim as Miguel Quin tero 27 of Hammonton DeLaurentis said witnesses told police that bouncer Jose Guzman 25' asked Quintero to leave the bar because Quintero was intoxicated Quintero refused they got into a scuffle and during the scuffle Guzman hit Quintero in the face several times with a pair of brass knuckles and then hit him across the face with a tire DeLaurentis said Police recovered a tire iron at the scene the detective said Lt Sean Locantore arrested Guzman inside the bar shortly af ter police were called said De Laurentis Guzman had brass knuckles in his possession at the time of his arrest Guzman was charged with ag gravated assault aggravated as sault with a weapon and posses sion of a weapon for unlawful purposes DeLaurentis said He was placed in the Atlantic Coun ty Jail in lieu of $1500 cash bail set by Municipal Judge William Cappuccio but was
