Board Session Held in Bend By Honorary More than 100 women teachers and school administrators were in Bend Saturday for the annual Oregon planning meeting of Delta Kappa Gamma, national honorary for women educators. Presiding at the, sessions here was Miss Mathilda, Gilles, Salem, president of Rho State (Oregon branch of the honorary). She is principal of Richmond Elementary School in the capital city. Members of Sigma chapter, with membership throughout Central Oregon, acted as hostesses.

Mrs. Florence Ferebee, elementary supervisor in Prineville, is chapter president. Mrs. P. R.

Buckingham, Deschutes County school superintendent, and Mrs. Othor Scott, sixth 1 grade teacher at Allen, were in charge of arrangements for the meeting. State officers and representatives of 25 chapters in the state were present. The occasion was the annual executive board meeting and workshop. The morning session was held in the circuit court room at the county courthouse.

The afternoon sion followed a luncheon at the Pine Tavern. A tea was served there. before adjournment, with members of Sigma chapter as hostesses. Open House Held For Octogenarian Mrs. R.

S. Linton was honored at open house Sunday afternoon at the of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Elder, Newport Avenue. The home, occasion was Mrs.

Linton's 80th birthday anniversary. Some 80 friends and relatives called to offer congratulations. Hostesses were Mrs. Linton's daughters, Mrs. Lee Erickson of Redmond and Mrs.

Elder; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. James A. Elder, Tumalo Deschutes Road. and Mrs. K.

G. Cruikshank and Mrs. Vernon Smith, Bend. Mrs. Linton was born in St.

Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada. She has been a Bend resident 43 years, and makes her home at 514 Congress Street. She has three granddaughters, Mrs. F. J.

Capell, San Antonio, Texas; Miss Sandra Elder, Bend, and Miss Bobby Lee Erickson, Redmond, a student at the University of Oregon. Miss Elder and Miss Erickson poured at the reception. Great grandchildren are Nancy and Cindy, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Capell, and Peter and Paul twin sons.

Golf Club Dance Set for Saturday The Bend Golf Club will open its new social season with a dinnerdance for members and guests tomorrow night. Turkey dinner will be served from 8 to 11 p.m., following a cocktail hour. Earl Roarig's orchestra will provide music for dancing, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Mr.

and Mrs. Omer Summers will be chairmen of the committee in charge. Pine Cone Unit Starts New Year The Pine Cone extension unit began its program for the new year with a meeting September 11 at the home of Mrs. Monte Montgomery, 616 E. Irving Avenue.

The new officers, elected earlier, assumed their duties. They are Mrs. Montgomery, chairman; Mrs. Ruel Brumitt, vice chairman, and Mrs. John Prentice, secretary-treasurer.

The year's program was outlined and committees were named. The next meeting will be Octob. er 16, at Mrs. Brumitt's home, 245 E. Tenth Street.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Gerke, Prineville. For the ceremony, the bride was gowned in white lace and tulle with floor length skirt basque bodice.

Her fingertip veil cascaded from pearls and sequins. She was given in marraige by her father. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Henry, formerly of Prineville and now of Oceanlake.

Miss Theresa Adams sang "Because' and "The Lord's Prayer." Miss Jean Berry played the wedding marches. Miss Diana Brahm was maid of Installation Set By Yew Lane PTC New officers of the Yew Lane Parent-Teachers Club will be installed Monday, September 22, at Yew Lane School. This will be the FTC's first meeting of the school year. Mrs. Wallace Van Hise, junior vice president of the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers, will be the installing officer.

Joe Fisher of Portland. queen of Nydia Temple, Daughters of the Nile, will make an official visit to the Bend Nile Club Monday, September 22. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Iva Rauw, also of Portland, junior past queen of the temple. The women will be honored at a 12 o'clock luncheon at the Hide-AWay in the Pilot Butte Inn.

and Mrs. Paul Dean Barnes (Mary Louise Eberhard) will be at home after September 22 in San Francisco, where the bridegroom is employed at Wells Fargo Bank. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D.

Eberhard of Redmond, and was given in marriage by her father. She graduated from Redmond Union High School this spring, and attended the summer session at Monmouth College. Her husband is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert A.

Barnes Harrisburg. He graduated from Harrisburg High School, served two years in the United States Army and finished his sophomore year at Monmouth College. The bridegroom's father performed the marriage ceremony in Community Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon. Candelabra and pink and white gladiolus decorated the altar. Mrs.

Fred Hodecker was organist and Mrs. Fred Karpstein sang "I Love You Truly" and "The Lord's Prayer." The bride's gown had Victorian style bodice with scoop neckline and pearl and sequin trim. A net panel topped the tiered, ruffled skirt. She wore an imported Alencon lace mantilla, and shoulder tip Head Officers To Visit Bend Mirror Court, Order of the Amaranth, will be host to head officers of the grand court, Sunday afternoon at the Bend Masonic Temple, 1041 E. Ninth Street.

Making their official visit will be Mrs. Willis E. Mack of Astoria, grand royal matron, and Hugh H. Templeton of Milwaukie, grand royal patron. They will inspect the ritualistic work in a meeting scheduled to start at 2 o'clock.

A class of candidates will be presented for initiation, with Mrs. Daniel C. Renno, royal matron of Mirror Court, and David Y. Wilson, royal patron, presiding. Preceding the meeting, a potluck dinner will be held at the temple, starting at 12 noon.

Officers of the host court are in charge of arrangements. These members of Mirror Court hold grand court offices and committee appointments: Mrs. W. Herbert Maker, assistant grand lecturer: Mrs. Arthur E.

Hill, grand representative to Washington; Wilbur E. Sherly and Charles K. Davis, members of the promotion of new courts committee, and Mr and Mrs. Fred Bishop, associate matron and patron, members of the social activities committee. Venture Club Initiates 3 In Ceremony is The Bend Venture Club held an impressive initiation ceremony for three new members, following a dinner Tuesday evening in the Glen Vista coffee shop.

The neophytes are Misses Kaye Ball, Flora Sherman and Kay Stadum. Mrs. D. Ray Miller and Mrs. W.

K. Euston, Venture Club advisers from the Soroptimist Club, were among those present. Guests were the Misses Nancy Renno, Christine Bliss, Veta McNare, Mary Beth Sather and Shirley Kinslow. Miss Donna Marie Stumpff, president, performed the candlelight ceremony. Miss Helen Halligan, secretary, made the welcoming remarks.

Mrs. Euston gave the invocation. Attendance prizes were won by the Misses Pat Morris and Christine Bliss. Miss Halligan was chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements, assisted by Miss JoVan Sickle, Miss O'Keefe, Miss Morris and Miss Stumpff. Assembly Club Sets Dance Dates The Assembly Dance Club, reorganizing for the new season, has set dates for four formal dances.

The dances will be held in the Pilot Butte Inn Blue Room, as in the past, with music Duke Warner's band. Dates are October 18. December 20, March 28 and May 2. Dancing will begin at 9:30 on each of the evenings, and continue until 1 a.m. Members of the board are Mrs.

Steve Jackson, Mrs. Robert Koble, Mrs. John McCarthy, Mrs. Richard Sullivan, Mrs. Kenneth Oakley and Mrs.

Albert B. Cook. The group made plans for the new season, at a meeting Monday morning at Mrs. McCarthy's home. Board members and their husbands will be hosts for the first dance.

The women will make preparations at a sack lunch Friday, September 26, at Mrs. Cook's home on Tumalo-Deschutes Road. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Shower is Given For Mrs. Pierce Mrs.

Richard Pierce was honored at a layette shower Tuesday afternoon at her home at 327 Portland Avenue, following a no-hostess luncheon at the Pine Tavern. Twenty-five guests were present. Mrs. Pierce, the former Sandra Kuehl, is the daughter of of Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Kuehl of Powell Butte, who lived in Lebanon and Corvallis before moving to Central Oregon. Guests from outside Bend, in addition to Mrs. Kuehl, were the following: Mrs. Roxanna Clark, Beaverton; Miss Lilla McCoy, Albany; Mrs. Gertrude Brown, Corvallis; Mrs.

Merrill Rush and Mrs. Flora Davidson, Harrisburg: Mrs. GeorSalem; Mrs. Raymond Trentolm. Sweet Home, and Mrs.

Leland Tucker, Mrs. Gus Smith. Mrs. James Smith, Mrs. Winfield Morse, Mrs.

Joe, Morse, Mrs. Clintor. Morse, Mrs. Belle Faulkner, Mrs. Glen Pierce and Donald Androff, all of Lebanon.

Installation Held By Extension Unit Mrs. Larry Gassner was installed as chairman of the Eastern Star home extension unit, at the annual rcorganization meeting last week. Other new officers are Mrs. Lloyd Parker, vice-chairman; Mrs. W.

P. Barackman, secretary, and Mrs. Bruce Dyer, treasurer. Mrs. Alvin Turner of the county home economics committee was installing officer.

Mrs. Lyle Carrington was hostess, at her home in Wells Acres. Committees and project leaders were chosen for the 1958-59 club year. The next meeting will be October 2, at the Eastern Star Grange Mrs. Carringten and Mrs.

Gassner will be leaders for the project, copper enameling of jewelry. I MRS. Her pearl necklace was the bridegroom's gift, and she carried a lace handkerchief of her mother's. Attendants were Miss Korleen Kraft, maid of honor, and Miss Patricia McClure, bridesmaid, both of Redmond.

They wore Ming blue velvet sheaths with matching velvet hair bandeau and carried white lace fans with pink roses. Louis Barnes, Harrisburg, was his brother's best man. Another brother, Joseph Barnes of Sacramento, and Richard Eberhard were ushers. The reception was held in Westminster Hall. Mrs.

Frank Jud. aunt of the bride, cut the cake. Mrs. Jack Eberhard, Mrs. Robert Eberhard and Mrs.

Harold Haberman poured. Miss Sandra Absher had the guest book, and Miss Verna Jud was in charge of gifts. Mrs. Lester Large assisted about the room. Guests attended from many Oregon cities and several cities in California.

MRS. WILLIS E. MACK HUGH H. TEMPLETON honor and bridesmaids were Mrs. Lester White, Miss Janet Waggoner, Miss Pam Selzer, Miss Judy Durkee and Miss Donna Bonney.

They wore ballerina-length gowns of light blue taffeta and carried cascade bouquets of blue and white daisies. Candle lighters were Miss Mary Ann Thrasher and Miss Connie Harling. The flower girl was tiny Kristie Gerke, Master Kelly Gerke was the ring bearer. Darrell Aschbacker best man. Leslie Thrasher, Henry, was, Bob Davis, John Wilcox and Larry Burlson ushered.

The bride's mother was gowned in brown lace with beige accessories and she wore a pink and white corsage of carnations and rosebuds. The bridegroom's mother wore an afternoon dress of blue chiffon with blue and white accessories. Her corsage was of white carnations. A reception was held in the fireplace room of the church ing the double-ring ceremony performed by the Rev. Noble Streeter.

Afterwards the young left for McMinnville, where Henry will attend college. Sorority Chapter Begins New Year Members of Xi chapter, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, began their "year of fulfillment" project at the first meeting of the new club year, Wednesday evening. The president, Mrs. James Smiley. conducted a special ritual keyed to the year's theme.

Mrs. Dallas Dean was hostess. at her home at 623 Lafayette Avenue. A group donation of $5 was voted for the United Fund. Plans for the fall rushing pro gram will be made at the next meeting, to be hold Wednesday, September 24, at 8 p.m.

LAVA UNIT ORGANIZES The Lava Extension Unit held its first meeting of the year Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. F. C. LaMothe. 743 Harmon Boulevard.

Projects for the year were outlined, committees were appointed and meeting places were chosen. Installation will be held at the thirst all day mecting, October 21 at the home of Mrs. Lewis Langer, 1116 E. Eleventh Street. The meeting will start at 10:30 a.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Craig MacCloskey, married August 30, are at home in Corvallis, at 2707 Harrison Street. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Edward M. Thurston, Bend, is a graduate student at Oregon State College, working towards a bachelor of science degree in business and technology. He holds a similar degree in forest products from the state college. He graduated from Eugene High School. The bride, the former Mary Jacqueline Jenks, is the daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. James Jenks, Albany. Formerly an Oregon State College student, after attending high school in Albany, she was graduated from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, as piano major in the music department. She was affiliated with Delta Delta Delta sorority at OSC. Her husband's fraternity is Beta Theta Pi.

Married in Albany The wedding took place at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Albany, and a reception followed in the church Fireplace Room. The Rev. Morton L. Booth performed the double-ring ceremony, Betrothal News Told by Parents Mr. and Mrs.

Frank Alander of North McKay Road, Prineville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Nancy Kay, to William Dale Thompson. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Thompson, also of Prineville.

Miss Alander is a student at Crook County High School. Her fiance is a sophomore at Willamette University, Salem. He finished high school in Prineville in 1957. Date for the wedding has not been set. NANCY KAY ALANDER in a setting of gladiolus and white delphinium.

Candelabra, entwined with small-leaf ivy, held ivory tapers. The bride's father gave her in marriage. She wore a sheath dress bands of braid at the neckline and in tiered effect on the skirt. A train of the same material as the dress was attached at the waistlipe, and a veil of illusion net fell from headpiece of braid matching the dress's trim. The bride carried a white orchid on a Rainbow Bible.

Sister Is Attendant Miss Kathryn Thurston, sister of the bridegroom, and James W. Jenks brother of the bride, were the only attendants. Miss Thurston wore a gown of delustered coral satin, with ballerinalength harem skirt. Her flowers were ivory gladiolus, in an arm bouquet and coiffure accent. Friends of the couple from Eugene, Albany, Portland, San Francisco and Corvallis were ushers.

Cousins of the bridge, George T. Hubbs of St. Paul, and Ronald M. Hubbs of Silverton, were candeighters. The bride's mother chose A gown of moss green lace over taffeta.

Mrs. Thurston wore beige lace over apricot taffeta. Both mothers had corsages of baby orchids. The bridal couple honeymooned on the Oregon coast. For going away, the bride wore a trapeze dress of lightweight wool in rust shade, with matching shoes and bag and white gloves.

She pinned on her white orchid corsage. Program Outlined At First Meeting Special To The Bulletin GILCHRIST The program for the coming year was outlined at a recent organization meeting of the Gilchrist Crescent home extension unit. Mrs. Leon Lytle was named treasurer for the coming year, Mrs. Jess Kersten, Mrs.

Louis Andersen and Mrs. Ernest Hardman were hostesses to the 15 members attending the meeting. The fall and winter program, an nounced by Mrs. Andersen, chairman, follows: September 18, "Camp time and place to be announced later by the leaders, Mrs. Ernest Evins and Mrs.

Crawford Page: October 2, tincraft; October 16, 2 "Tacky 7:30 p.m. at Community Club; November 6, "Color in the January 8, "Low Calorie Dessert." Topics and times for other meetings will be announced later..
