of San Bernardino, died Saturday The county's lwerks Ultra Screen theater faces competition from two large theaters already at the Ontario Mills mall. AMC opened a 5.700 seat, 30 screen theater complex in December and the Edwards 22-screen theater opened Friday. Edwards also will open an 1MAX theater. At least one supervisor didn't expect the loan afterthought. "I frankly thought originally that the start-up costs were sufficient to get it up and running and did not think a capital fund was necessary," said Dennis Hansberger.

He has opposed the county going into the movie business, but approved the funds with the rest of the board. "The county's already built the darn thing and is getting ready to open it. Now we have to try and do things to make it successful. I'm concerned that what's going to happen is we're going to lose money." Hansberger wanted assurances that the county would be reimbursed. However, it seems the county put itself third in line.

Ellington said theater revenue first goes toward repaying $7.4 million in taxable bonds. Management fees for Ogden and the county are second. Any revenue then would be split between the county and Ogden. The entire loan may not be needed, but $500,000 is the maximum that could be borrowed. By Cerise A.

Valenzuela Sun Staff Writer SAN BEHNAKMNO Managers of the county's UltraScreen theater will Ret a $400.700 boost before the May 23 opening, county supervisors decided Tuesday. Thcv also authorized a STXKUXXX) loan to "get the theater up and running." Ogden Entertainment Services requested the $400,700 for pre-opening labor, film rental and marketing for the Ontario Mills site. The county agreed last May to pay those expenses. The $500,000 was extra. The contract between the county and Ogden allowed the company to advance working capital to the county if it is repaid with prime interest.

But E. Jay Ellington, director of the county Community and Cultural Resources Department, said it would be less expensive for the county to borrow from the general fund. "A portion of it would be made up in interest revenue," he said. Still several supervisors and County Administrative Officer Jim Hlawek were unable to say whether the $500,000 loan from the general fund was budgeted as part of the more than S7 million project. As part of the deal, the county will postpone payment of a $100,000 management fee to Ogden until after the opening of the 440-seat theater.

Shaw Mortuary Directing. COMPLETE SERVICES: On Site Cfemjtfiry Complete Funeral Par luges Open Door Polity- Allows Vtewimj Of Facility Crime "I don't know what they were arguing about." said Cpl. Nate Harley of the Fontana Police Department. Between four and eight shots were fired. A bullet struck the office door just outside the gymnasium, spidering the glass and ripping a hole in the office wall.

Across the hall from the indoor gymnasium is a teen center. The center also has an after school program for children. On Monday and Wednesday nights the gym is open until 9 p.m. for anyone to play basketball for free. Some of the people at the center were unable to give police a good description of the shooter, or possibly were afraid to talk.

Harley said. The center. 6362 Citrus has been a trouble spot for police in the past but recently has been peaceful. "Years ago it had some problems drugs, shots being fired, sometimes they had a party or a fight. But in the last few years it has been pretty quiet." Harley said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Fontana Police Department investigators at (9091 360 7720. by highway official says Crime Dewhirst said some were aborted so early they were only tissue, and it was impossible to say how many products of conception were involved. Typically, aborted fetuses are classed as medical waste and are incinerated at facilities licensed to dispose of such material. The fetuses may have been on their way to disposal, but it is not likely that they would have been transported in an open vehicle where the box could have dropped out. The coroner's office will keep the fetuses until the sheriffs investigation is complete and the district attorney's office decides whether to prosecute.

Among the possible crimes that could be charged is illegal dumping. Several groups have contacted the coroner's office about arranging for burial of the fetuses once the investigation is over, Dewhirst said. "We have told them to send us a letter stating who they are and what they want to do so when the DA advises us, we can make a decision." he said. "At that point some of these people may not be interested. It could take several months." Shooting follows argument during pickup basketball game at Fontana community center.

By Sonja Lewis Sun Staff Writer FONTANA An argument during a pickup basketball game at a city community center ended with the shooting of a San Bernardino man and his 4-year-old daughter. Neither was seriously injured. The man, 25, as shot Monday while playing a pick-up game of basketball at the Jesse Turner Center, police said. The girl was standing beside him when the shooting occurred about 7:45 p.m. The man was shot in the legs, his daughter in the foot.

Both were taken to San Bernardino County Community Medical Center, where they were expected to be treated and released. Police are looking for the assailant, who was believed to have been driving a white Ford Astro van. The two men were playing basketball when an argument broke out, police said. One of the men then left through the indoor gym. went outside and returned with an assault rifle.

Fetuses found were aborted, Deputies say they have narrowed down where fetuses that were found in Chino Hills probably came from. By Pamela Fitzsimmons Sun Staff Writer Human fetuses found earlier this month by the side of a Chino Hills highway were all aborted some in very early stages, others older than 20 weeks, a deputy coroner said Tuesday. San Bernardino County sheriffs deputies have narrowed down the location where the fetuses likely came from but are not yet ready to release details, a spokesman said. Two juveniles playing in a field off Highway 71 on March 14 found the fetuses in containers placed in a cardboard box. Because of the precise way in which the fetuses were packaged, it appeared they came from an abortion clinic.

"All have the appearance of being done medically or legally not from backroom abortions." said Deputy Coroner Tom Dewhirst. The exact number of fetuses is unknown. Initially, sheriffs investigators said 30 were found. Later, the number was increased to 34.
