The Algona Tipper Pea Koines, Algona, Iowa, Sept 27,1934 Twenty Years Ago News . (Taken from the flies of the tipper Des Molnes-RepubUean for the week of September 30, 1914) The North Kossuth Record at Oer- manla (Lakota) had been mid by the Times Brothers to Mrs. Freda Cam* den and Miss Lara Thomann, both of KnuMtaburg. Governor O. W. Clarke had. issued a proclamation naming October •, 1»14, as Fire Prevention Day and plan* were being made to have a meeting of the mayor, business men and fire chief In Algona. F. J. Mann had purchased the automobile Interests of H. S. Mountford In the Mountford Auto Company and wag to continue In the business under the same name. Mr. Mann had been a partner in the business the previous two seasons. Algona was to have a big automobile race meeting on October 0 and 10, and some of the noted drivers of the country were expected to be here. Negotiations were being made to bring Barney Oldfleld and Mulford, two world famed automobile drivers, to Algona for the meet. Six years previous to this time Haggard and Falkenhalner (bod purchased as unimproved 80 acres of Portland township land for $30 an acre. Later they sold it for $60 and at that present time had repurchased it at $100. They planned to improve the land by putting in tile and to put the land on the market again. The Upper Des Moines-Republlcan expected to begin moving into their new building the next day. Besides the ordinary heavy work of moving, new Individual variable speed electric motors on the machinery were being Installed and also a new foldlnr machine. The new building mentioned in the proceeding sentences is the building the Algona Upper Des Moines is now located In and the old building formerly occupied by this paper was situated two buildings north of here. This building is soon to bo torn down, as it was considered a fire hazzard to the new postofflce which will soon be built. Bistau Bound Over George Rtstau of LuVerne was arrested last Wednesday evening by a state, federal and county officer, on a charge of havng alcohol illegally in his possession. He was taken bsfore Justice P. A. Darjson, and bound over to the grand jury. Bond was fixed at $1,000 and was furnished, County Attorney McMaton stated. LONE ROCK NEWS (Crowded Out Last Week) Charles Zoller of Lakota spent the week end at the Frederick Schultz home. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Newbroiuth and Mr. and Mrte. Lawrence Newbrouhh visited at the home of Mrs. A. D. NewbrouRh's brother. Arthur Hevnolds at Kumboldt Sunday. Wm. Hevnolds Mrs. Newbrough's father, who had spent the past few weeks visiting here returned to his home at Humboldt on Sunday. The following leathered at the E. C. Bierstedt home Sunday evening for a surprise party in honor of Mrs. E. C. Blerstedt's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Boderius. Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
