cham pion or a Trinidad Jones fight to' happen Jones would have drop down to the super limit of 168 and Trinidad would have to move up two weight classes ROM Bl Tech they ranked higher than Oregon State in five of the eight BCS computers and ahead of Notre Dame in all eight strength of schedule was 13th toughest compared to 4 1 st for Oregon State and 26th for the Irish you go 1 0 1 and almost story a program that up to two years ago had en dured 28 straight losing seasons Notre deal was what puz zled the Hokies Whether anybody likes it or not the Irish play by a different set of rules than the rest of the country If the Irish win nine games and finish in the top 12 rules state it has to be included in the BCS puzzle think crazy Tech quarterback Michael Vick said know what the deal is behind that I definitely think that should have been our spot us be ing ranked where we are still think not getting the respect that we deserve What else can we do? been in the top five for the last two seasons we played in the national champi onship last year and went 10 1 this year when everybody thought our season was going to be worse I just think some things happened that just Beamer said he was the iesta take Mi ami and ensure itself a game with national title ramifications In stead Miami is headed to the Sugar to face lorida If Miami had gone to the iesta Tech may have had a crack at the Sugar amazes me that the iesta want a team that has a chance to win a national champi Beamer said got to do what they got to do I think if the Orange Bowl would have had the same options as the iesta Bowl I believe be in there as opposed to an Oregon State kind of what side of the country Until leaving for Jacksonville on Dec 26 the Hokies will finish exams take some time off then begin bowl preparations before going home for Christmas Need less to say the iesta sponsor Tostitos be the holiday fare told wife Cheryl that just plain potato chips in the bowls at home from now said Beamer Sugar Bowl could lead to co national champions associated press lorida State always seems to be in the mix no matter what sys tem college football uses to decide a national champion or the fourth time in the last five seasons the No 3 Seminoles (11 1) will play for a national title this time against No 1 Oklaho ma (12 0) in the Orange Bowl on Jan 3 lorida State opened as an 1 1 point favorite The Bowl Championship Se system of rating teams using polls computers schedule strength and losses placed the Seminoles second behind the Sooners in its final standings re leased Sunday The matchup creates the pos sibility of split national champions The AP media poll and the poll have Oklahoma and Miami ranked 1 2 If lorida State beats Oklahoma and Miami beats lorida in the Sugar Bowl on Jan 2 a chance for co champions The AP sports writers and broadcasters vote indepen dently of the BCS but the poll crowns the Orange Bowl win ner as its champion that happens then that will be what it BCS coordinator John Swofford said BCS eliminate that possibility known that all along It does minimize the chances for it lorida State coach Bobby Bowden understands his team could share a national title with the Hurricanes who beat the Semi noles 27 24 on Oct 7 Still he says the BCS formula proves his team deserves to play in Miami was run through the Bowden said had nothing to do with it The facts were fed in during the season and it came out ranking us second We will accept that No 1 vs No 2 in the BCS and if we were to beat Oklahoma then I think we should be No 1 in the nation in the BCS But that probably happen in the AP unless lorida beats Miami coach Butch Davis said his team did its best to reach the BCS title game being played in its own backyard ftSSOCIATED PRESS TOP 25 USft
