FUNNY BUSINESS HOWeST (TACK'S cAes By Koger Bellen TV hefs for urban, rural audiences By RICK DU BROW HOLLYWOOD (UPI) clear-cut ratings battle between urban televiewers and the rural audience will feature the competition for dominance of Tuesday nights in the coming video season. Tuesdays proved highly successful for ABC-TV in the past season because of the lineup of "The Mod Squad," "The Movie of the Week" and "Marcus Welby, MD." "The Mod Squad" was a holdover.

"Welby'' and the 90- minute original teleplays on "The Movie of the Week" were new entries that helped power ABC-TV to its strongest night. And all these series have solid urban appeal. NBC-TV's Tuesday schedule, meanwhile, includes "Julia" and weekly motion pictures which alternate with original two-hour teleplays and the newsmagazine -style "First Tuesday" network lineup with definite urban orientation. Now, however, OBS-TV has announced revisions for the coming season's Tuesday schedule, and the basic effect is to give that network a definite rural tone for that night. Under its new plans, CBS-TV will lead off its 'Tuesday prime time with "The Beverly Hillbillies," and follow that with 'Green Acres." Both these series are newly transferred to Tuesdays.

Following "Green Acres" is the hillbilly version of "laugh- In" called "Hee Haw." And following "Hee Haw" will be the cornball situation. comedy, "To Rome with Love," about an American family that moves to Italy when the father, a teacher, gets a job there. This series is certain to take on a more rural appeal with the addition of Walter Brennan to the cast as an elderly relative. Remarkably, in one of the mysterious ways particular to television, CBS-TV's four Tuesday series of corn will be followed by the network's new hours, which closes out the prime time. night.

Needless to say, the "CBS News Hour" is the most dignified and sophisti cated series on the network. NBC-TV, by the way, interprets CBS-TV's move of "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Green Acres" to early Tuesday night as a compliment to the new Don Knotts Variety Hour, which these series will compete with head-on. The upcoming show with Knotts lis on NBC- TV, and previously CBS-TV planned to challenge it with "To Rome With Love" and the new Mary Tyler Moore situation comedy. Miss Moore's show has been switched to Saturdays, and another situation comedy, "The Governor and J.J.," has been transferred from Tuesdays to the former slot of "The Beverly Hillbillies" on Wednesdays. History is made every day on television.

Treatment of burns a matter of dispute By DR. WAYNE G. BRANDSTADT The treatment of burns is still a much-disputed matter. Suffice it to say that several relativley new treatments al! give excellent results. Authorities agree that the best emergency treatment is immediate immersion in a tub or bucket of cold water.

This should be continued until tlie pain stops often an hour or more. This treatment should not be used if the area burned is so large that it would reduce the body temperature because this would add to the danger of shock. The direct application of ice should be avoided because it causes too great a constriction of the blood vessels. The cold water treatment is of little value after blisters have formed. Don't spread grease or ointment on your bum without your doctor's advice because the act of spreading adds to the pain.

Equally important in the emergency treatment of severe burns is the drinking of a glass of water containing a level teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda. Following the acute it is important to prevent infection TIZZY by Kate Osann ISJO NEA, Int. T.M. U.S. P.I.

For this purpose, a newly developed vaccine is effective. Other agents include mafenide (Sulfamylon Cream), 1 per cent silver sulfadiazine ointment, 0.5 per cent silver nitrate cream or 0.1 per cent gen- tamycin cream.

Silicone-soaked mittens aid in the recovery of burned hands. In burns involv ing the deeper layers of skin, a skin graft is usually necessary. I have diverticulitis and have to be on a bland diet. As a result, I am losing weight. How can I gain weight and still stay on my diet? A bland diet is oile that contains a minimum of roughage' and otlier gastrointestinal irritants.

Taken in quantities that more than balance your expenditure of energy, you are bound to gain weight. Try eating at least one egg, two cubic inches of cheese, three cubic inches of margarine and four glasses of milk a day, in addition to bread cereal, custard, blanc mange, ice cream and cake. If you are not gaining, increase the size of the portions. It may be hard to get so much food down at first but, las you start to gain, your appe- jiitc should improve. 0 I am a woman.

You enjoy being in the thick of whatever is going on; indeed, nothing can make you feel more unwanted, more dejected, more lonely than to be on the outside looking in. Youi- genuine interest in other people, in their activities, successes, and even their failures, makes you welcome in almost anyone's circle of intimates. Your willingness to help secures that welcome. Although you are fully, aware of your talents and capabilities and equally aware of those abilities which you may lack, you do not allow your limitations to hold you back. You insist upon trying for yourself whatever activities appeal to you.

You would be wise, however, to apply the brakes now and again. Don't be so insistent upon your right to try your wings. Your "right" could become your "downfall." Not one to critize others not even when you know you could do the work in question faster and better you let others live their own lives in their own way without interference from you. You do, however, have a special feeling for children and may. at times respond to the urge to see that their lives are improved through greater parental understanding.
