Ledyard: Tlie carnhal h-rld Friday evening in the school under the auspices of the Purple and Gold Activity Association was a decided success in every way. A good crowd was present to enjoy the fun and the association cleared over $75. To Present Play On Friday evening, May llth the seniors will present a farce In three acts entitled "Oh Professor" under the direction of Miss Marjorle Stranahan. The cast includes, Roland Smith. Idah Telcamp, TUmer Halverson. Alethia Brack. Malinda Goetz. Adah Telcamp. Anna Jones. Kenneth Thompson. Alvin Depping. James Logan. Lillian Sanders and Freda Schadendorf. the D. A. Carpenter F. O. Johnson were Mrs. J. H. Welfare has been ill with the flu this past week. Mrs. Howard Mayne was a Bancroft visitor Friday afternoon. The Ladles' Aid met Thursday aft?r- noon at the home of Mrs. Csrl Burrows. Ruth Swartaell of Olin visited over the week end at home. Rev. and Mrs. guests Sunday at the Leon Worden home. Everett and John Hartshorn attended the Relbsamen funeral on Thursday at Titonka. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Campbell of Seneca were Sunday guests at the Clifton Engelby home. Mrs. Aeilt Troff. Mrs. Albert Barnes and Marjorie visited relatives In Algona Friday afternoon. The Rev. Johnsons of Lakota were supper guests at the V. A. Barrett home last Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Knoner and John were in Burt Saturday where Mrs. Knoner is having dental work done. The Women's Foreign Missionary society will meet at the home of Mrs. George Thompson Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sullivan are the proud parents of a son. Patrick Henry, born April 26 at the hospital in Whlttemore. Barbara Wylam of Swea Citv spent Saturday and Sunday at the D. B. Mayer home. Lola Wylam and Jeanette Wilson were also guests on Sunday. Maynard White who makes his homt with his uncle. David Fritz, received word Friday of the serious Illness of his father. He left at once to be at his bedside and his home near Grinnell. Mrs. Ed Genrich of Algona visited her sister, Ruth Jones, here Friday evening. Saturday they went to Llvermore to attend a family reunion. Miss Rar.dall accompanied them to Algona then went on to her home in Mason City for the week end. On Thursday evening the children of Mrs. Mary Poppe held a surprise party for her at the Wm. Poppe home in honor of her 71st birthday. Those who attended were the Adolph Poppe family of Lakota, the Lou Nltz family, Mrs. Ella Gelhaus and Luetta and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mayne. On last Thursday evening Patty May Olson celebrated her 8th birthday by entertaining 8 little friends at supper. Those who attended were: Anna Marie Hassebrock, Marjorie Weaver, Beverly Wiese, Connie Garry, Velda Estle, France* Vahnke and Majorle Mayer. Rev. and Mrs. Johnson of Lnkota were also guests. Good Hope Youth Has Narrow Escape Good Hope: Kenneth Riitledgo narrowly escaped serious injury Monday when he was kicked with both feet by n horse he was working over. ITr- was -struck in the groin and thigh and was out of action for about an hour, but was later able to go about his work. Good Hope Ladles' Aid is meeting this week Thursday afternoon with Mrs. James Knoll. Mrs. Vern Gross will assist. Alden Roid was able to return to school Tuesday morning after ten days of serious illness with a general infection. A new well Is being drllkd at the W. J. Bourne farm to replace the old well upon which they have depended for so many years, but which, because of lack of moisture the past several seasons, is now going dry. Parties from Armstrong are doing the work. A birthday dinner in honor of the anniversary of Robert Charles, four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Engstrom. was served at the Henry Engstrom home last Sunday. Guests present were the August Engstroms, Wesley: the Everett Harrises, Algona; the Otto Engstroms and B^tty Turner. Club Guests of Ethel Smith Union: The Union Mothers and Daughters club was entertained by Ethel Smith last Thursday afternoon. April 26th. at her home. She was assisted by Elizabeth Schenck. Thirty-three ladies were present. Music was furnished by Evelyn Cruikshank. The club song was sung. A paper on "Research Work in Agriculture." was ably given by Louisa McNutt. The next meeting will be held at the Community room at Good Hope, it being the annual Mother day tea. Every member is supposed to bring a mother. The program committee in charge is Ada Hofius. chairman, Cora Bacon and Mary DeOraw. The menu committee Is Cora Reid, chairman, assisted by Veda McArthur and Bertha Sarchett. Injured in Pall Miss Gustle Winkle of this city suffered a deep gash In her head Tuesday afternoon when she fell from a car onto the pavement. Miss Winkle waa on the way to the cemetery to plant some shrubbery, accompanied by her nephew, Harry Winkle, and Miss Winkie fell to the pavement. Eight or ten Mitches were taken to clase the wound. N. Riverdale Threshing Ring is Organized Irvington: The north Riverdale Ihreshing ring held a meeting nt the Peter HnLsrud home recently and arrangements were completed for this year's threshing ring. Leo Lichter has been engaged with his machine to do the work. There are thirteen in this run. Swea City: Pearl McAninch. only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. McAninch, was married Wednesday, April 25, at 5 p. m., to Charles Faugust of East Chain, Minn., at the home of her parents by Rev. Clifford McAninch of Stlllwater. Minn., a brother of the bride. Attendants were Claude Faugust and Olive McAninch. The cpremony was performed In the presence of immediate relatives. The bride is a gra- Juate of the class of "28 of the Swea "My high school and she later attended Drake University and majored in music, ater teaching school and music. She has also been rrtanlst at (he Baptist church for a period of years. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Faugust, prominent farmers of Martin county and they will live at East Chain, Minn. Frank Trerett Services Mr. and Mrs. Richard Berg and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Rolfe attended the funeral of Frank Trevett, 36. at Estherville last week. At Milbank, S. D., he was fatally injured in an automobile accident which resulted in hl.« death. He is survived by his wife and three children, Richard, age 7, Bernadine, 5, and Elizabeth, 2, his parents and one sister and one brother. Hosts of friends here extend sympathy to the bereaved family. Mr. Trevett was a member of the Fishier Post, American Legion, and served as adjutant of the post, when a resident here. 200 at P. T. A. Over 200 attended the P. T. A. on Friday night. Miss Edith Holmstrom of the bureau of dental hygiene of Iowa City, gave an Illustrated lecture. The sophomore class presented a play, "The King's English" in a clever manner. Officers for next, year will be elected nt the next meeting. Miss Louise Webster and Viola Duncan from Almee Semple McPlterson's Angelus Temple of Los Angeles are conducting revival meetings at the Full Gospel Mission. Miss Irene Halsman of Eagle township was married Wednesday, April 18 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Armtrong to Stanley Garaczkowskl by Rev. Joseph Wolf. The young couple are children of fanners of Eagle township, and will make their home on a farm rtrar Iowa Lake. Margaret Mulligan visited at Algona with her friend. Jessie Smith. The Fred Doles of Irvington were at the Sim Leigh home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Runchey of the Cresco neighborhood were at the Ben Terhune home. Mr. and Mrs. John Simon, Jr., and Mrs. Cora Virgin were at the Cleve Stewart home. Mrs. Harry Seeley assisted by Mrs. Loyal Young entertained the Plum Creek Literary society at the shelter house in the State Park on Wednesday of last week. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. lone Bacon, retiring president. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Elsie Willrett and approved. In the absence of Mrs. Nel- lie McWhorter. Mrs Aaron Taylor read an article on "Fears of Childhood." prepared by Mrs. McWhorter. Election of officers resulted in the following: president. Mrs. Harry Seeley; first vice president, Mrs. Pearl Knox; second vice president. Mrs. Lydia Sampson; third vice president. Mrs. Loyal Young; secretary-treasurer, Ethel Johnson; Nina Taylor, corresponding secretary and Mrs. lone Bacon, assistant corresponding secretary. Steve Loss was operated on last Tuesday morning at the Kossuth hospital. Mrs. Ray Fitch visited last Thursday with her sister. Mrs. George Johnson. Omar Cleary is again employed at the Rny Fitch farm assisting with the farm work. ..... Dorothy. Joe and Eugene Lagc and Boby Oeigel were having a siege of chicken pox last week, hence they were absent from school a few days. Mrs. Ralph Campbell and daughter, Bernlce of Seneca were Algona shoppers last Saturday and also visited at the Ralph Lage home. The two ladies are sisters. Mrs. Marguerite Wlnandy and two children returned last Sunday to their home In Chicago after an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Simon, Sr. Edward Mawdlsley replanted about 200 evergreen trees last Wednesday and Thursday in his grove. Six men assisted with the work. Due to the extreme drouth, many trees that survived the winter are now dying for lack of moisture. Carol Hutchins, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hutchins, was quarantined for scarlet f^ver last Thursday afternoon. This Is very unfortunate to happen now as Carol Is in this year's graduating class. However, to date he has not been seriously ill. Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson visited Sunday at Britt with Mrs. Johnson's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Cha*. Clarke. The Harry Seeley family were at the Irvin Olson home near Wesley. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fitch and their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.. Forbes Stiltz spent the day at Rutland with Mrs. Fitch'e cousin, Ernust Raney.
