against each other Sophomore Major Harris Neh quarterback at West Virginia accounted for two touchdowns and directed six first half scoring drives to pace the 1 6th ranked Mountain eers to a 62 14 victory over An alcons in a football opener for both teams really want to score that many points said Neh len also a former coach of Bowling Green were my buddies over riendship aside Nehlen used his bigger team to keep his record perfect in nine WVU season openers and become the most successful coach in 96 years of football played a lot of people to day so I guess we did decently" Nehlen said rushed for 144 yards and two scores as No 12 Georgia used an overpowering ground game to down 18th ranked Tennessee 28 17 in a Southeastern Conference game Saturday night Hampton scored on runs of 43 yards in the first quarter and went 2 yards on fourth down with 6:35 re maining to give the Bulldogs an 1 1 point lead scores in the season opener for both teams came in the second half a 3 yard run that was set up by a fumble recovery and a 15 yard scamper that was set up by 56 yard run The ground assault enabled Georgia to star coach Vince Dool ey's 25th season with a victory leav ing him seven shy of becoming the 10th coach in NCAA Division I A history to reach the 200 win plateau The Bulldogs had to overcome the pinpoint passing of Jeff rancis who became all time leader in passing yardage
