The victory snapped a fourgame winless streak for the Yellow Jackets, 1-1-1 in the ACC and 4-3-1 coverall. It was the seventh consecutive defeat for Duke (0-3, 1-7).

Dewberry, who completed 13 of 19 passes, fired scoring shots of 18 yards to Gary Wilkins in the first quarter, 5 yards to Ken Whisenhunt in the third and 13 yards to Mike Harrington in the fourth. Robert Lavette, who had 114 yards on 20 carries, scored the other Jacket touchdown on a 12-yard run. David Bell completed the scoring with a 34-yard field goal.
