'The chief item taken up at the meeting was the shortage of teachers, At the present time more than fifty per cent of the schools in the county are without teachers.

Worse than this, there are no applications whatsever and the board does not know where to go to get teachers. Practically all of the one and two teacher schools in the county are unprovided for. To arrange the situation a little better the piAn 18 now to have as many. consolidated schools as possible in the county. This will enable he schools to pay larger salaries and to reduce the size of the personnel.

FARMERS' PICNIC PLANS PROGRESSING FINELY Big Crowd Expected on July 30; Important Meetings of Various Committees Plans for the Farmer's plenic to be held at Mineral Springs on Friday July 30 have been practically completed and the committee 18 now busy trying to get all the farmers in the county informed of the date. Posters bearing the date and the name of the chief speaker have been placarded all over county so that every one may keep the day in mind.

It is expected that at least 5000 farmera of the county will be present. The entertainment committee has not finished altogether with its work but has a the program ready the afternoon there will be toying pictures and two bands will De on hand to furnish music, one brass band and one stringed band. Committee meetings will be held during the day and the farm women will hold a meeting in the auditorium. Refreshments will be served by the ladies of the various communities, the proceeds to be applied toward the furnishing of the new rest room which will be located in the store of the Automotive Implement Company on North Trade street. Gray, of Nevada, Missouri, a member of the executive board of Federal Farm Bureaus, will be the principal speaker. Mr. Gray is one of the most important agriculturalists in the country and is an expert on the subject of farm bureaus, While here he will assist in the formation of a farm bureau. Mineral Springs is located back of the county home. It is one of the most accessible places in the county and for that reason was chosen by the committee for the meeting place.

TRINITY COLLEGE TO HAVE FOOTBALL SEASON Methodist College Announces Schedule; No Intercollegiate Football Since 1894 After a lapse of a quarter of a century Trinity College will resume intercollegiate football this fall. It will be remembered that back in the '80'9 Trinity active part ducing football into North Carolina, 1888 Carolina Association was formed, composed of Trinity, the University of North Carolina and Wake Forest. Thanksgiving of the year Trinity and Carolina prayers "the first scientific game of football" to be played in North Carolina.

Trinity winning 16 to 0, It is interesting to note that the time of halves was forty-five minutes. For six years Trinity put teams, reaching the climax of her success Thanksgiving 1891, when by defeating Univer. sity of Virginia 30 to 0. she won the championship of the South. After the season of 1894 Trinity has not wen represented the gridiron, although class ball was carried on up through 1904.

After having played class ball for the past two years, Trinity is once more ready to take her place in the competition for football honors. The schedule for the coming season follows: Gullford College at Trinity, October 16. Emory and Henry at Trinity, October 23. Lynchburg College at Trinity, 00- tober 30. Elon College at Trinity, November: 13.
