Office largest ship ment of steel office equipment ever placed in the city is on display in front of the Barber store this afternoon. It consists of thirty steel fire proof cablnets, with ends and some extra equipment, representing a value of over thousand dollars. It was purchased thru the Barber store by the Wachovia Bank and Trust who will have it placed in their vaults in the building. Damage -Attorneys Sapp McKaughan have started proceedings in the superior court for Thomas Mer. ritt against the Forsyth Manufacturing Company for the recovery of damages for persona' juries alleged to have been received by their cient whil operating a machine In the defendant's factory.

H. Bennett, late of Portland, Oregon. spent a few hours in the city yesterday en route to North Wilkes. boro. Mr.

Bennett was chosen recent M. E. conference as presiding elder of North Wilkesboro district. and will enter upon his work at once. He is a native of Haywood county Mrs.

Bennett of Lincoln county, but they have been in the west for six years. Mr. Bennett was pastor of the M. E. church at Spokane, Washington, for three years and of the church at Portland, Ore.

for three years. Doing Nicely. -Dr. John Bynum, who is attending Miss Lillian Rogers and Mr. Frank McRae, who were injured in the auto ambulance accident on Sunday, reports this afternoon that both are doing very nicely, tho they are still suffering from severity of the shock and bruises received.

He states that their condition is not serlous, and that a few days of perfect rest and quiet will permit them to 1 be up. Miss Rogers is at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L.

Rog ers, on Highland avenue, and Mr. Me Rae is at the home of his mother, Mrs. S. E. McRae, 317 Seventh street Mr.

McAlister's Mr. W. MeAlister, of Greensboro, who is to deliver the address at the courthouse on Saturday in connection with County Progress Day, has written the committee that while he will have much to say that he hopes will be of interest to the people of the county at large, he is especially anxious to have a representative number of the progressive citizens of the city at the meeting during the period of his address. Chairman Ludlow states that his address will be placed to come on the program about 10:30 and he is expecially anxious to have a large num ber of the business men of the city as well as the ladies of the community present during that period. To Be Entertained.

-The boks of the Fairview branch of the Young Men's Christian Association will be entertained at the central association tonight. Supper will be served at seven o'clock, after which the boys will go to the gymnasium for some athletic work. The work at the Fair view branch is progressing nicely, the boys taking a great deal of interest 111 the work there. on Tuesday and Thursday night, and then going to the central association each Saturday afternoon and evening, where they en joy the gymnasium, swimming pool and other privileges of the associa tion. The supper this evening will be served by the domestic science class of the high school.

Series of Lectures. -It has planned to have a series of lectures delivered by prominent citizens 0 the city to the senior class of the high school upon subjects of interest and importance. This feature wa. introduced into the school last year and was an important part of the school work and very popular with the pupils. The subjects for the series will be as follows: Genera! Government, North Carolina State Suffrage Qualification Government of American Cities, Re.

form Movementa in American Govern meat and The Congress of the United States. The first of this series of lectures was delivered this morning by Mr. E. Y. Yates on the subject of General Government.

Mr. Yates pre sented in a forceful, in teresting manner and his hearers were much pleased with the lecture. Sudden Nancy Eliza beth Schott, wife of John W. Sohott. died suddenly at her home on Mar shall street Thursday afternoon at four o'clock, after" an illness lasting less than day.

Mrs. Schott was two years of age. She is surviv. ed by her husband and four children. Mrs.

John Burton, Miss Ruth Schott and Mr. Reginald Schott, of this city, and Mr. John 10. IS hott, of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs.

Schott was a consecrated. faithful member of the Home Moravtan church, and a loyal member of the Berea class of the Home Sunday school, and other church organize tions. She entoved a large measure of the love and esteem of a wide eir ele of friends. The funeral will 1 conducted from the residence by Rev. K.
