PAOE TWO THE DEAD WOOD DAILY PIONEER-TIMES TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 1908. The Pioneer-Times DBADWOOD, S. D. OUR LETTER Is not a judge In New York, who would permit the poorest outcast to be railroaded to death. Nor is there one who would lend his sanction to any effort to frustrate the ends of justice in behalf of a rich man.

The court in New York found Thaw to be Irresponsible and a proper subject for the asylum instead of the electric chair. Th finding of the "Les forget" we beg to remind you that every express brings new spring goods and our racl are beginning to groan with their new load of sjits, skirts and spring jackets. There 'are garments to suit every taste and each one expresses elegance aic individuality which is so characteristic of this great style store. While each is correct many are conservative some extreme--but all right as a fox. Owing to the diversity of styles, description is impossible and we kin jfy invite the pleasure of showing them to you.

BURKE For Mayor W. E. ADAMS THE FATE OP HARRY THAW The alienists who have examined and watched Harry Thaw since he has been in the Matteawan asylum give it as their opinion that he is a paranoiac, and as such Is doomed to spend the rest of his days in the in sane asylum. While this decision is not final It apparantly foreshad ows the outcome of the Thaw case, Nor is it an unexpected finding, al though it probably is a disappoint ment to those 'who thoughtlessly assert that millionares never get what is coming to them from the courts of this country. The conclusion of the experts that the notorious prisoner is a dangerous lunatic is the logical one in view of the verdict in the murder case.

If Thaw was in his right mind and killed Stanford White in cold blood he was entitled under the laws of New York, to expiate his crime in the electric chair. The jurors who heard the evidence were of the opinion that the prisoner was not responsible for his deed, should not be permitted to be at large not alone becauss of his actions but because of the possible wrong he might do. It' is not an uncommon thing to Aear the sentiment expressed that a man with plenty of money always can get clear. Such charges are an injustice to our courts. A rich man may employ expert witnesses and skilled attorneys who will bring out any strong points there may be in his favor and show up the weakness of the defense.

His attorneys may cloud the issues in the case so that the jurors place undue importance on points in the prisoners defense, but no one, if he stops to consider, believes that jurors or judges violate their oaths just because the accused happens to have money. THE MAX A XI) HIS JOB. Don't wait to be told. Act on your own initiative, and make of yourself a being distinct and self-reliant. When a thing is to be done, do It. Don't wait for the next man, but you your self perform the act, accomplish the result and recieve the credit.

Many men of ability are ccntent to carry out the orders of others, and it is only when the unexpected happens that they are forced to be independent and made to stand on their own originality. "I attribute my start in life to one day when my boss went to the circus," said a successful merchant. "He left explicit instructions regarding every detail of the business. My opportunity arrived, however when the building next door caught fire, and 1 had to direct the work of protecting our goods. The boss had never told me what to do in case of a fire, and for the first lime in my life 1 had act on my own initiative." It takes a good man to execute another's plans, but the man who makes his own plans is a genius.

Be original! If envy is ignorance, then imitation is suicide, and the man who waits to be told what to do next will never be in a position to direct the work of others. Depend neither on your employer nor on your fellow employee to solve the problems arising In every-day business. Better make a break than not make anything. Trust yourself, and don't be a coward, pinched in the corner of stagnant conservatism. THE SCANDINAVIAN LEAGl'E The resolutions adopted by the Scandinavian League at its meeting Monday are not unique but they are striving in the naive way in which they assert and re-assert an apparently unshaken confidence in Coe.

L. Crawford and the insurgent office seekers. "Every pledge made in the platform of 1906 has been kept and the people of South Dakota now have the ablest and cleanest administration in its history. This is one of the gems from the document. "Every pledge made in the platform statement, when it is considered that the 2-cent passenger fare went glimmering; express rates are unchanged; some telephone rates; (he "stone issue" still an issue; a whole lot of public offices; no interest on state funds; a greater neglect of public duty by public officers for private purposes than ever before in the history of the state, a higher taxation than ever with the surety of a large deficit at the end of the year.

Compared with its promises the Crawford administration is a frost, and the pronunciament of the Scandinavian League causes us to laugh. IT IS SERIOUS Some Deadwood People Fail to Realize the Seriousness The constant aching of a bad back. The weariness, the tired feeling. The pains and aches of kidney ills. Are serious if neglected. Dangerous urinary troubles follow.

James McConnell of 728 Nortu Cliff Sioux Falls, S. says: "My wife and I both used Doan's Kidney Pills with very beneficial results and recommend them My back pained me all the time and prevented me from getting any rest at night. I tried a number of remedies but not until I got Doan's Kidney Pills could I find any benefit. In a few days after I began using them the pains left me and have never returned. My wife's trouble was quite similar and the result of using Doan's Kidney Pills was just the same In her case." Plenty more proof like this from Deadwood people.
