Mr, Rasmusson, director of the band, and Miss Billing, director of the Glee club, accompanied the students. According to a former Luther college bandman and .teacher, the Algona band acquitted itself very well. He remarked especially about the excellent Intonation. The featuring of the trombone section in Lassus Trombone, by Fil-j more, brought a tremendous I amount of applause. The playing | of the overture, Morning, Noon, I and Night, by Suppe, is said to have been the finest band selection of the evening. Two College Critics. I Instrumental critic was Myron K. Russell, and vocal critic, Verne Delaney, both of the state teachers' college, Cedar Palls. The Glee club sang five selec- tions, the most successful of which were Dedication, by Franz, and Lullaby, by Cain. The critic complimented members on their musicianship, good use of dynamics, and good nuances. The high point of the festival was said to be the flinging by a vocal ensemble made up of pupils from various schools who were rehearsed and directed by Mr. Delaney. Those from Algona who sang in the group were Elfreda Lehman, Lois Colwell, Margaret Miller, Mary Jane Neville, Onita Thompson, Harriet Keith, Rosalie Swa.nson, Maxine Peterson, Betty Laird, and Don, Johnson. Three Other Bands. Britt, Garner, and Belmond bands played on the same .program with the Algona band. Schools entering vocal groups were Corwlth, Kanawha, Klemme, Britt, Garner, and Algona. 'lone Lease who is vocal instructor at Britt, is a daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. W. H. Lease.who formerly lived in Algona. The Rev. Mr. Lease was district superintendent before the Rev. Mr. Muhle- mann. He is now Methodist pastor at Rolfe. Among those who accompanied the students to Britt were Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Norton, Mrs. O. Scott Moore, Roy Bjustrom, Harry Keith, Dr. and Mrs. S. W. Meyer, the Rev. and Mrs. Buthman, and John G. McDowell.
