gards to the football team at ries High School My first impulse was to call the young man and give him my first hand opinion of what I thought was an article of extremely poor taste In fact it was com pletely out of line with what I felt was good journalism ries High is a small school located in a small mill community with a very small student body The football team has been discontinued on at least two occasions be cause of being unable to field a team Yet these kids are a bunch of the greatest you will find anywhere no matter what size the school or student body Last year the team fought a long hard struggle after a layoff in football and put out an impressive record The kids this year wanted a team and they have tried under very difficult circum stances to attain that goal When I read where King wrote first question one would ask is: how does it feel to play for the worst team in the and he was asking one of the young men on the side lines who was hurt previously well that just sounds like someone who is trying pur posely to hurt the spirit and drive of a small school that tries to keep a team mov ing in spite of injuries and a small squad I tried to make some determination as to why anybody would write such an article and have found it difficult to come up with any answer I certainly have always been very toler ant of constructive criticism whether it be of myself or my alma mater but this type printing reflects by direct insult to ries High School its students and teachers Mrs Robert Sharp Jr of ries writes Randy King: I am not a native of ries as I only moved here six months ago The place grew up and lived before moving to' ries had a very large school and extra good ball teams (they were No 1 in football and bas ketball the same year) I was and still am very proud of them Not only because they were No 1 but because they were a part of my community I feel the same way about the ries football team even though they are last They are a part of my community and I in tend to support them all the way win or lose CAREER OPPORTUNITY IN SW ROANOKE North Cross running back Rick Magee rushed 25 times for 198 yards scored one touchdown and passed
