William T. Fleetwood of Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, participated in the first night operation which simultaneously employed dual methods to refuel and resupply an underway aircraft carrier. With hazards of two ships steaming together at close refueling quarters intensified by South China Sea darkness. Walker's ship, the nuclear powered attack aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, took fuel from the combat stores ship USS Sacramento by the familiar "highline" method. At the same time, in another critical operation, the "Big was receiving vital supplies by helicopter transfer from the multi-mission Sacramento.

Walker is a graduate of Rantoul Township High School at Rantoul, III. Army Sp.5 Jimmy Gideon, son of Mr. and Mrs George W. Gideon of 1011 Avenue in Del Rio, recently received the Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam. He was presented the medal for distinguishing himself through meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Vietnam.

The medal, adopted tn recognizes outstanding achievement. Spec. Gideon received the award while assigned as a driver with headquarters detachment of the 7th Transportation Battalion near Long Binh. Army Sp. 4 Jerry L.

Henderson, son of James W. Henderson of 12024 E. 2nd St. in Del Rio, received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Vietnam. Spec.

Henderson received the award while assigned as a JOE GARCIA petroleum storage specialist with the 512th Quartermaster Company near Long Binh," His wife, Linda, lives in Sonora. manufacturing plant In Eagle Pass. Ken Ecclestone of San Antonio will head the new company known as Border Manufacturers and Distributors, are In great demand by the major manufacturing, and distributing companies of name brands. He Is now funded by a joint venture made up of Maverick County Development Corporation and Maverick Enterprises, both local development groups. These funds are being used to prepare samples which will be unveiled at the fall furniture shows which he will attend by invitation of major furniture distributing corporations. Some advance sales are assured, and following the showings, Border Manufacturing will begin production in quantity.

It is anticipated that operations will begin at Avalon Industries building with the assistance of Hugo Werner, one of the local manufacturers. It will progress in orderly steps to occupy a place in the Industrial Park which is progressing rapidly. Avalon Industries can supply facilities until such time as the park is ready for construction of a new factory. The type of furniture to be built -in Eagle Pass is strikingly yet along ctassis lines. One model is on display in the window of the Maverick County Development Corporation office at 601 Rio Grande.

Materials to be used are aluminum, plastic, and glass, 'Hie aluminum is cast and plated to resemble brass, copper, bronze, and silver. The plastics are indistinguishable from wood, stone, and leather. One has to see examples of this artistic work to fully appreciate its delicate sturdy boauty. When the plant is in operation, it will employ from 50 to 70 workers. Urgently needed at this time are experienced aluminum casting foremen and aluminum foundry workers, pattern makers, woodcarvers, and more especially, sculptors, or people Who can carve plaster.

These specialized jobs will probably be filled by key people recruited loca'lly. if possible. Later on these artists and technicians will work with the Concentrated Employment Program and (he TEC office to recruit and train other skilleS people. Jobs will be filled mainly by residents of the local neighborhoods who are heads of families. Ttie plant will offer employment for mostly male workers.
