wheelchair in the kitchen as a fire broke out but refused to heed the warnings of her grandson to leave or reasons that will never be clear fire of ficials said Wednesday the invalid woman would not leave the kitchen even though her grandson Derrick Black discovered the fire in time to save her Her charred body was found lying in the hallway after firemen ex tinguished the blaze that destroyed the three story apartment building She apparently tried to escape at the last moment ire officials said the youngster had forgot a school book and headed home to retrieve it He got there in time to find his apart ment on fire and his in valid grandmother sitting in her wheelchair in the kitchen The youngster described by fire officials as a "small lad for his age" tried his best to per suade Mrs' Johnson to leave their apartment butthe woman refused to ouuge And the young boy fran tically ran to neighbors' apartments ringing doorbells for help shortly after 9 am "There was no one home while the woman was cooking She was home alone because parents were at work apparently wasn't aware of the gravity of the situation or maybe being old she realize what was going on Maybe the carbon
