The Rev, Jacek Przygoda, Ph.D., has announced the ublication of his "Texas ioneers from Poland, a Study in the Ethnic History," a 171-page illustrated book in which he details the. Polish pioneering to the Lone Star State in the mid 1800s, Father Przygoda, a native of Sandomierz, Poland, is chairman of the department of economics at Loyola University In Los Angeles. The author notes that his research into the history of the Polish in Texas began because the state was "the very cradle of Polish Immigration." Polish immigrants not only left Poland which was then under German domination for economic freedom and religious and political liberty but at the urging of Texans who sought workers from Europe. A major portion of the immigration during 1854 to 1856 to Texas was made in such counties as Bexar, Bandera, DeWitt, Kames and Wilson.

Sources Fathei Trzygoda used in compiling his book included parish records, deeds, tax rolls and census records, many of which are reprinted in the book. Of interest to readers will be the author's accounts of many remnants of Polish culture still remaining intact in Polish colonies in Texas. The book can be obtained from Mrs. Lucille D. Bienek, 539 Chicago San Antonio, Texas, 78210 for $7.85 which includes handling and postage costs.
