WEDNE8DA1T, Of ARCH 1865- Corrxir DxiiocaATic NOMINATIONS. The democratic county convention which as- gambled in this city on Saturday last seems to have discharged its duties in a manner likely to meet with popular approbation generally. Judge Mallory, who is renomina- ted for judge of the Municipal Court, is one of the most efficient, capable and high nind- ed officers ever elected to any office in the county, and hie consent to remain in that position ia fortunate for all concerned. Judge Smith will also be re-elected county judge by common consent. The members of the convention deemed it due to public interests, that an officer of acknowledged legal ability and experience on the bench should be retained rather than make that responsible position a subject of personal or partisan strife.

Mr. Holihauer, the candidate for clerk of the Municipal Court, is known to be amply qualified for the place, and hie election is unquestionable MlLWAFKES AHD WAUKR8HA PLASK ROAD COMI-ANY. The bill introduced in the assembly upon ibis subject by Mr. Thompson provides that the directors may erect and maintain two toll gates at convenient distance from each other, and may exact toll from all persons traveling on their road at each of said gates, at the following rates; not exceeding five cents at each gate for every vehicle, sled, sleigh or carriage drawn by one animal; if drawn by two oenta if drawn by more than two animals, fire cents for each additional animal; for every horse and rider or led animal, five cents at each gate; for every score of neat cattle, twenty cents at each gate; for every score of sheep or swine, ten cents at each gate, and no thun half the gatage herein prescribed shall be taken from persons residing within one-half mile westerly of either gate said ro-ad, for passing the pate thereon nearest the place of residence of such person. usual reservation is made as to funeral processions, and it is further provided tb.it persons traveling the entire length of the road to Milwaukee shall pay but half the of gat- age named on the return trip.

There is much opposition to the bill at home CALIFORNIA PETROLIUM COMPANY The Church Journal says: This new corporation ia just now the theme of the whole fraternity of petroleum financiers.
