ill U.S. women continue their roll at soccer's Go Id Cup From wire dispatches It was a different opponent with a similar result. The U.S. women's soccer team looks as dominant as ever through two games in the Gold Cup. Two days after routing Trinidad and Tobago, 11-0, in their tournament opener, the Americans overpowered Costa Rica, 8-0, yesterday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

Nikki Serlenga scored three goals and Susan Bush had a goal and four assists for the United States, which clinched a berth in the semifinals of the eight-nation tournament. The Americans dictated play from the opening minutes, keeping the ball in the Costa Rican half of the field for more than 90 percent of the first half. World Cup veterans Mia Hamm, Kris-tine Lilly, Tiffany Milbrett and Kate So-brero did not play. Earlier, Katia Da Silva scored seven goals in Brazil's 11-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago. The Brazilians defeated Costa Rica, 8-0, Friday and will play the U.S.

team tomorrow night in Foxboro, Mass. More soccer Patrick Kluivert scored a record four goals to lead the Netherlands into the semifinals of the European Championship. Huivert's outburst in a 6-1 victory over Yu-goslavia in Rotterdam was the greatest individual scoring display in European Championship history. In another quarterfinal, Raul Gonzalez missed a penalty kick as Spain was eliminated by a 2-1 loss to World Cup champion France. He covered his face with his shirt while leaving the field.

Gonzalez, the star of the Spanish team, sailed his penalty kick over the bar in the last minute. The results set up the semifinals: Portu- gal-France on Wednesday in Brussels and the Netherlands-Italy on Thursday in Amsterdam. Tennis Patrick Rafter won the Heineken Trophy for the third consecutive year, beating Nicolas Escude, 6-1, 6-3, in Den Bosch, Netherlands, in a grass-court tune-up for Wimbledon. Both Rafter and Escude completed semifinal matches earlier in the day, after rain interrupted play Saturday with each still in the first set. When play resumed, Rafter overwhelmed Martin Damtn of the Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-2, and Escude, of France, beat American Michael Chang, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Escude then went into the final with just 90 minutes rest Football Pepe Pearson scored from 1 yard out with 1:12 to play, and the Rhein Fire went on to a 13-10 victory over the Scottish Claymores in World Bowl 2000 in Frankfurt, Germany. The Fire's victory wasn't assured until Roger Hart's 40-yard field-goal attempt with four seconds to play went wide left The game featured the league's two best passers in Kevin Daft of the Claymores and Danny Wuerffel of the Fire, but neither looked sharp. Horse racing Scatter the Gold, who didn't race as a 2-year-old, surged to the lead just past the eighth pole and went on to win its first race, the 141st running of the $1 million Queen's Plate at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Scatter the Gold, who went off as the 7-2 second favorite in a two-horse entry with Strike Smartly, won the l'A-mile race by 4'A lengths in 2:05.2. Scatter the Gold, whose mother was Dance Smartly, the 1991 Canadian Triple Crown winner, became the first horse in modern history to break his maiden at the Queen's Plate after not racing as a 2-year-old.

He also becomes the first maiden to win North America's longest-running stakes race since Golden Choice in 1986. Pro basketball In the WNBA: Lisa Leslie scored 20 of her 22 points in the second half, and the Los Angeles Sparks won their fifth consecutive game, 72-67 over the New York Liber- ty. Eva Nemcova, Rushia Brown and Chasity Melvin scored 13 points apiece as the Cleveland Rockers beat Phoenix, 64-61, snapping the Mercury's three-game road winning streak.
