POST-GAZETTE: Nov. 20, 198223 Weekend in preview: Network lineup is lackluster By Judy Flander series, ABC offers up Clint Eastwood in a tense, dramatic, 1979 movie about a remarkable prison break, "Escape from Alcatraz," at 9. Eastwood plays one of three prisoners who execute an elaborate escape from the impregnable, water-surrounded "rock" off San Francisco. An anti-jail movie, there are some disgusting scenes about the kinds of indignities thrust upon prisoners. their hand at the Civil War and meet John Anderson playing Abe Lincoln.

Jack Palance encases himself in a suit of armor, all in the line of duty as host of "Ripley's Believe it or Not" (ABC at 7). While "Matt Houston" (ABC at 8) strips to his bikini to impersonate a lifeguard to solve a crime. On "Archie Bunker's Place" (CBS at 8), Archie builds a second bath-room, with predictable complications. Clark's father arrives to take a look at "Gloria" (CBS at "The Jeffersons" (CBS at 9) take a mystery writers cruise that gets hairy very early on. The first of two parts.

The dramas, produced by Shelley Duvall, have witty, freewheeeling scripts that update and enchance these tales without condescension. Tomorrow long, silent funeral procession of bikers, slowly navigating the hilly San Francisco streets on their way to bury a comrade they have gunned down. On the sound track, a piano plays the Funeral March. The other scene short, amusing. The deaf Dragon, waking up to the sight of his new dog Bozo lazily stretched out full-length beside him.

The show is also a two-hour tribute to Peter Sellers' "Pink Panther" movie, filled with stars and film clips. Among Bob's guests: Julie Andrews and Robert Preston singing a song, from their own bit movie, "VictorVictoria." Andrews' husband, Blake Edwards, wrote, directed and produced "The Pank Panther" pantheon. Also on hand: Dean Martin, Dudley Moore, Willie Nelson, Berna-dette Peters and Robert Wagner. While CBS segues into its regular trees from massive oaks to ferns and palms.

Stunning visions of. wildlife abound. Cable capers You'll be cheering the young musicians on as if they were athletes in "The 1982 International Tchaikovsky Competition" (ARTS from 9 to A generous concert filled with gorgeous music. With talent like this, there's no worry about a dearth of future Rubinsteins and Perlmans. Also on ARTS, at 11:25, Studsl Terkel and Calvin Trillin's "Night cap Conversations on the Arts ana Letters." Guests are opera diva? Roberta Peters, Grace Bumbre and the statuesque Wilhelmenia-Fernandez, who so spectacularly graced the movie "Diva." Another special delight from-Showtime at 8: "Rick Springfield jrt, Concert." f- David Frizzell and Shelly host "Nashville Alive!" (WTBS at "Ragtime" makes it to HBO tonight at 8, with two completely different but riveting performances by old-timer James Cagney (who made the film after a 20 year hiatus), and newcomer Howard E. Rollins. After last Sunday's enticements, this weekend's network array is lackluster indeed. Saturday evening, fight fans have the easiest decision of all. Merely by punching the NBC button on your TV set at 9, you can watch the light-heavyweight bout between champion Dwight Braxton and challenger Eddie Davis.

Live, EST, from the Atlantic City Convention Center, where anything could happen and the suspense will be genuine. If you can't stand the sight of blood, you may be mildly diverted by CBS's new TV movie, "Hear No Evil," at 9 on Saturday. Gil Gerard as Bill Dragon in a routine cop drama with a banal script and what only approximates acting. Even the central gimmick of permanently deafening the hero in an explosion seems to have been transferred by rubbings from ancient stones. And Bernie Casey is color-matched as Gerard's partner for this tale of two San Francisco detectives who personally break the back of a vicious bikers' gang dealing in drugs.
