Ho touched upon many things that are liable to he overlooked, speaking first upon compulsory education, then upon matters in and out ot school that should have the attention of tho successful teacher. After recess Prof, Mace took up the subject of history again, taking the theme, "Tha South's View of Slavery." He said it was hard for the North to understand tlio South and likewise for the South to understand the North. They once thought alike on siavery. Thomas Jefferson spoke strongly against slavery, as aid others also of the South. Many of them felt It was wrong.

There cama a time when the slaveholder defended It. It waa brought about by self-Interest and pride. The North freed its slaves, but tlie South clang to them, needing them as was thought to grow cotton. One trouble, Prof, llaco salfl, Is that the people do not know each other.
