Parry was one of most illustrious composers in Welsh history but all his works are so Intensely Cymric in spirit that they are not appreciated outside of that nationality. He literally gave himself up to his country. Like other men of great Intellectual attainments, he has never been rich in this world's goods. Twelve years ago when fortune eventually began to smile upon him a disastrous fire In the Western Mail office destroyed all the stereotyped plates of his works, thus In one night depriving him practically of all the fruits of the labors of his busy life. His death will be learned with sincere regret by Welshmen In whatever part of the world they may reside.

With this Dr. Parry went to London and studied for years under the greatest English musical authorities' and then, according to his best friends snd ardent admirers, made the mistake of his life by settling In Wales. His genius at that time was universally admitted and he was a prolific writer.

But owing to his great patriotic seal and the Influence of his he confined his labors almost entirely to Welsh subjects, and his fame traveled slowly beyond the confines of his own people. It is generally believed that had Dr. Parry remained In London and made his compositions more cosmopolitan, his fame would have been world-wide. As It Is, however, his beautiful compositions are heard In every nook and corner of the world where the Cymro has penetrated. To the Welsh masses It is safe to say that he is probably best known as the author of the sweet minor ymn tune.

"Aberystwyth." In tt the author struck the popular chord with his fellow- countrymen, When It was first published so great was the His music exerted such a peculiar effect upon the masses at the eistedd-fodau that the Cymric "huyl" was aroused In a wonderful manner and It was, frequently, with difficulty that the conductor could prevail upon the audience to desist from singing again and again his popular hymn tunes. But Dr. Parry won fame by far more elaborate works. His most recent work was the opera. "Maid of Cefuyd-ra," for which Sir Joseph Bennett wrote the libretto.

This opera was first given but two weeks ago and congratulation were showered upon both Dr. Parry and Sir Joseph Bennett upon the great success which accompanied their Joint efforts. Another popular opera written by Dr. Parry was "Sylvia," and this was part. In the Lyceum, in this city, under Dr.

Parry direction in 1900. At that lm he toured America with a party of singers from Wales, the principal artists being his daughters-in-law, Hannah Jenkins Parry, and the weU known 1 tenor, Maldwyn Humphreys. In 1S94 Dr. Parry was adjudicator at the eisteddfod held In Laurel- Hill Park. During his visits to Bcranton he was the guest of Congressman Conned and Judge Edwards.
