Koontz Post-Gazette Staff Writer Judge H. Beiyl Klein was a a state representative and a judge and all by age 43. On the bench of Beaver County Common Pleas Court, Judge Klein was "brilliant He was a real teacher," said Beaver County Common Plea's Judge Joseph S. Walko, who recalled dealing with Judge Klein while serving as district attorney. "He was a gentleman and a 11 scholar and a good student of the law," Walko said.

"He was always politically astute. I couldn't imagine anyone who knew more about local politics than Beryl." Judge Klein died Saturday in Aliquippa Hospital of congestive heart failure. He was 70 years old and had battled poor health for the past 20 years, suffering 24 heart attacks in the past three years, said his son, Arnie of Green Tree. Failing health forced Judge Klein to step down from the bench. He had served six years after being appointed by former Gov.

Milton J. jShapp in 1972 to a two-year term and then winning re-election. Arnie Klein was 10 years old when his father made a career change from state representative to judge. was always asking him why he was always going to Harrisburg. I remember him telling me one day, Tm not going to Harrisburg I said, and he said, 'Tm going to be a And I said, 'What's The judgeship was the pinnacle of his career.

He was the son of Jewish immigrants who operated a grocery store on the main street of Aliquippa during the Depression. Aliquippa remained home to Judge Klein, who lived there all of his 70 years. Arnie Klein recalled his father accepting an award as "Man of the Year" from the Aliquippa Chamber of Commerce in 1972. Judge Klein told chamber members, "Beryl Klein may leave Aliquippa, but Aliquippa will never leave me," Amie Klein said. Judge Klein received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his law degree from Duquesne University.

He married his wife, Mildred, while he was still in law school and later served two years with the Army infantry in the Korean War. Judge Klein served as solicitor for the Aliquippa and Center Area school districts and the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit while he practiced law. In 1960, he was elected to the state House of Representatives, where he served until 1966. He served as legal and research counsel to the state Senate floor leader from 1967 to 1971, when he was appointed deputy attorney general and chief counsel to Lt. Gov.

Ernest P. Kline. After he retired from the bench, poor health kept Judge Klein from doing much, his son said. He tried to practice law privately for about three years. But he kept his keen By Pamela Gaynor Post-Gazette Staff Writer Donald D.

Munroe was nothing if not entrepreneurial. As a young man graduating from Allegheny College during the Depression in 1932, he couldn't count on his family's small steel fabricating company to hire him. Instead, he found a job as an office boy for Thompson Paint Co. in Oakmont and soon persuaded the owner to give him a chance at sales. "He went to the president and asked if he could borrow a car to go out and sell some paint," said his wife, Marian.

"He sold 50 gallons. It was the company's biggest sale in months." Mr. Munroe, of Churchill, who went on to take over his family's business and turn it into a multi-million dollar enterprise, died Friday of a heart attack at UPMC St. Margaret. He had had numerous health problems since suffering a stroke nine years ago, his wife said.

He was 87. After working 16 years for Thompson Paint, Mr. Munroe had saved enough money to buy out R. Munroe Sons Manufacturing so that his father and uncle could retire, his wife said. He turned what was a very small enterprise into a much bigger business, said his brother, Robert of Oakmont.

Mr. Munroe sold the business in 1974 after acquiring a 10-acre tract of land in Oakmont that he wanted to develop. The land was the site of a H. Beryl Klein interest in Aliquippa politics and sports and was proud of the town in which he grew up. Judge Klein was a past president of B'nai B'rith Lodge 1125 and a member of the advisory board of Catholic Social Services of Beaver County.

He also was a member of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges and the American Judicature Society. In addition to his wife and son, Judge Klein is survived by another son, Lloyd of Squirrel Hill; a daughter, Roberta Klein of South Park; a brother, Morris Klein of Pittsburgh; a sister, Olga Klein of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren. Friends will be received at 1 1 a.m. tomorrow at the Wayne N. Tatalo-vich Funeral Home, 2205 McMinn Aliquippa, where a funeral will be held at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in the Beth Shalom Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the B'nai B'rith Foundation, 1824 Murray Pittsburgh 15217, or to the Beth Samuel Jewish Center, 810 Kennedy Drive, Am-bridge 15003.
