I Kicker Wally Whisenhant booted a 30- yard field goal with six seconds left as Kountze High School ended a 53-game losing streak, edging Kirbyville, 3-0, in schoolboy; football action Friday night. The school had not won since Sept. 9, 1977 when it beat Woodviile 7-2.

Ensign broke a six-year, 48-game losing, streak Friday, defeating Montezuma High 58-56 in triple overtime on the road. Ensign, a town of 209 people in southwest Kansas, had not seen its high school's eight-man team win a game since a 14-6 season-opening victory over Fargon, in 1977. Meanwhile, Golden City snapped its modest 37-game losing streak with a 24-6 victory over Jasper, the team's first since a 48-14 win over Greenwood in 1979. Kountze head coach Don Elliff was ec-, static after the victory. -''V "It is fantastic; you don't know the Elliff "I'm just glad it's over.
