The Independent Thursday, April 27, Page 8 SOCIAL SCENE Saddle Club The Hawarden Saddle flub held a card party the 23rd of April with 20 people present. Men's high went to Seward Van Buskirk; Men's low to Elmer Haage. Women's high went to Alma Westegaard; women's low to Minnie Haage. Lunch was served by Lena Weyen, Mr. and Mrs.

Herman Weyen, Mr. and Sirs. Elmer Haage and Ed Schurman. Pinochle Club Mr. and Mrs.

George Bode entertained the members of their Pinochle Club in their home last Sunday evening at a dinner. Following the balance of the evening was spent playing pinochle. Bridge Club Sin. Olive Landgren entertained the members of her bridge club in her home last Thursday evening at a dessert luncheon. Following the luncheon the balance of the evening was spent at cards.

25th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weyer of Chats- wath, Iowa, will observe their 25th on May 7, at their home from 2 to 4. Hosting will be their children Mr. and Mrs.

Brown of Akron Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gericshausen of Beresford, South Dakota, and Xicho- les, Carolyn, Jerold, Beverly and Patricia at home. There are grandchildren numbering four. Hilltoppers Meet Mrs.

Marlin Moeller entertained the members of The Hilltoppers in her home at a dessert luncheon Tuesday. Following the luncheon the balance of the afternoon at cards. Mother's Club The Mother's Club of the American Legion Auxiliary will hold their May meeting at the home of Mrs. Sophia Ronsiek Tuesday afternoon May 2nd with Mrs. Grace Ahmann assisting hostess, Legion Auxilary The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary will meet Monday evening May 1st in the Legion Hall.

The committee on refreshments are the following: Mrs. Elsie Mohan, Mrs. Durette Ney, Mrs. William Kratochvil, and Mrs. Linden Anderson.

Womerfs Club The Literary and Art Department of the Hawarden Woman's Club met at the home of Helen Wright April 19 with Bea Earl as co-hostess. The following officers were elected: Frieda Rehder-president, Astrid Hansen- Vice president, and Eva Van Noort- secretary and Treasurer for the coming year. An interesting book report on "The Drop of a Veil" was given by Eva Van Noort. The next meeting will be a picnic potluck at HawardaiPark on June 7 6:30 p. m.

and Mrs. Fred Vanderham of Ireton, Iowa will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniverary at an Open House this Sunday, April 30, from 2:00 to 4:30 p. m. in St. Lutheran Church at Ireton.

There will be a 3:00 p. m. program. Kathyrn Davis and Fred Vanderham were married April 27, 1922 at Platte, S.D. The Open House will be hosted by their children, Mr.

and Mrs. Marvin Vanderham of Merrill, la. and Mr. and Mrs. Kennth (Shirley) Jacobsen of Ireton, seven grand children, and twp great grand children.

Mr. Mrs. Forrest Miller of Minneapolis came Monday to visit in the home of her sister and husband Mr. and Mrs. Lee Keehn.

Rush were former Hawarden residents. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hodoway and Mr. and Mrs.

Robert Hodoway were at Vermillion Sunday going especially to help their granddaughter, Sheri Madsen observe her 5th birthday. Mr. John Hodgson is a patient in St. Luke's Hospital at Sioux City. Mr.

and Mrs. Lee Keehn, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wasser, and Mrs. Walter Utesch attended the funeral of Miss Josephine Winslow of LeMars last Monday morning.

Francis E. McNally 68 of South Gate, California passed away Sunday April 16th. Survivors are his wife Marie, and two sisters Mrs. Beraice Solomon of Los Angeles and Mrs. Florence Morgan of Hawarden.

Dedication Concert Sunday, April 30 At Associated Church This Sunday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m. the Associated Church will have a Dedication Concert for the. re-designed organ. The general public is cordially invited. The guest artist will be Mr.

A. Eugene Doutt. Mr. Doutt is organist of the United Methodist Church in Watertown, South Dakota. He is a.

graduate of Muskingum College in Ohio and Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey where he studied organ with Carl Weinrich and Alexander McCurdy. He has taught music at Kalamazoo (Michigan) College and Huron College in Huron S.D. He has served churches in Michigan and the Dakota's. As an organ builder he represented the Moller Organ Company in the Dakotas for fifteen years and since 1964 has been an independent builder. Besides a few selections played by Mr.

Doutt there will be an anthem by the church choir and vocal solos. The organ was re-designed and rebuilt by Mr. William C. Jackson of Beresford who will also be a participant. Following the concert everyone is invited to the church basement parlor for refreshments, and there will be a reception line for all who wish to greet Mrs.

Hal Shoemaker who is being honored on this day for the completion of 25 years of service as Church Organist and Choir Director of the Associated Church. This term of service was completed last August 29. During all of this time the Sundays missed in this service were less than ten.
