The Whiteland Vol-, unteer Fire Department fought the blaze in zero temperatures. Most of the Jone's possessions were saved. The Needham Methodist W.S.C.S. wil hold its meeting with Mrs. Beverly Van Arsdale, Wednesday afternoon, Feb.

Bill Doyle, former residents of Needham who now live near Trafalagar, have adopted a baby boy. He has been named Michael Anthony and is now three weeks old. We know this baby will bring much happiness to Bill and Fearl and we are happy for them, and for little "Mike," too. Congratulations and best wishes go to Evan (Pete) Harris and Mildred Trogdon who were married Saturday evening at the Trogdon home in Franklin. Pete is employed at Co-op elevator here in Needham and Mrs.

Harris is owner and operator of Mickey's Nursing Home in Franklin. Pupils at Needham enjoyed a day off Thursday due to cold weather (16 degrees below zero, and that's cold) and slick roads. A few of the Franklin pupils went to school from here, but most were unable to attend due to lack of transportation. Still Active At 92 A. E.

Long, a resident of Need ham nearing his ninety-second birthday, was seen out in the zero temperatures last week cleaning the snow from his porch and walks. Mr. Long keeps busy around the house along with trips: to the store and post office. Miss Phyllis Julian of Greenwood visited Mr. and Mrs.

George Julian and family Sunday. Mrs. Merrill (Vera) Moore of Dyer, visited Mrs. Charles Beard and daughters, Saturday morning. Miss Bertha Fisher, who entered the Masonic Home last fall is confined to the hospital there.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Foley of Franklin spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wood and family.

The Foleys were in the process of moving from their apartment in Franklin to their newly-built home near Bargers-ville. Heavy Snow In Maine Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Beard and family are preparing to return to their home in Caribou, Me. They are quite coneeifned about the snow.

There were 22 inches on the ground when they left there a month ago, besides what has fallen in between then and now, and a new eight-inch snowfall for the area has been predicted. The temperature hasn't been high enough to melt any of this either, and we complain! Just a little foot note We thought last Thursday was ccld at 16 degrees below zero, but the old thermometer at the back door this morning (Monday) registered 22 below. Several reported the same reading as ours too, so it must be pretty accurate. Mr. and Mrs.

Leroy Cooper visited Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Asher and Connie Sunday. Robert Beard, Kenneth Taylor, and Gary Harris are aU celebrating birthdays this week. Mr.

and Mrs. Charles Beard will observe their wedding anniversary on Friday. The young people in Needham have been making good use of the ice on Big Sugar lately. Several have been ice skating there. By Mrs.

Charles Beard "Divided Self was the sermon topic Rev. Nelson Scott used Sunday morning tor the worship service in the Christian church. Mrs. Lynn Bennett served as pianist in the absence ol Mrs. Wilbur Cornelius, who was unable to be present due to the bad roads.

Rev. II. II. Clements filled his regular appointment Sunday morning in the Methodist Church, using as his sermon subject, "The Spirit Cf God." Due to the road conditions there were no evening services, but all sen-ices will be held this week as has been anonunced. The baptismal service, Chi Rho, and choir practice, which were originally planned for Sunday afternoon and evening, were postponed until further notice due to the bad weather.

As I look over my notes, from which I make up my items, I can't help but notice the varied events occurring in and around Needham this past week. Among them is a birth, a death, a house fire, an adoption, a marriage, unusual weather and the organizing of a fire department, Needham may me small, but we're ont inactive. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Julian of Franklin are the parents of a baby girl, born Saturday morning in Memorial Hospital.

The Julians have one other daughter and two sons. Mr. and Mrs. George Julian are the paternal grandparents. Will Be Long Remembered Mrs.

Esta (E. II. Gross, whose death occurred in Memorial Hospital last Friday morning, had been quite active in church groups while living in Needham. She was a member of the Methodist church and the W.S.C.S. and was faithful in attendance until her health failed.

She enjoyed visiting her many friends and neighbors, and will long be remembered by those who knew her. Ninety-one years of age, she had spent the last several years in nursing homes. and Mrs. Floyd Smith returned home last Tuesday from a two weeks visit with her brother, John Adams, and his family in Sarasota, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Woods spent the week end in Indianapolis with Mr.

and Mrs. Don Teeters. Several friends from Morgan-town attended the wedding of Miss Ruth Mayer and David Rihm in Indianapolis on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs.

Don Carrington and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Williams visited Mr. and Mrs. John Williams on Saturday.

Mrs. Hubert Crane is showing improvement from recent surgery. She hopes to be home this week. Mr. and Mrs.

Jerry Dee Park of Memphis, Tenn. are the parents of a son, Vernon Scott, born January 20. The School of Missions was cancelled Sunday evening at the Methodist Church. Next Sunday evening, the school wiU be resumed with Dr. and Mrs.

Dalton, missionaries, as the guest speakers. Family Birthday Party At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Reed and Mrs. Betsy Ashcroft a family birthday party was enjoyed.

Seven of the relatives celebrated their birthdays, Sandy Lewis, Marty Dean Lewis, Ralph Bond, Judy West, John Gil-more, and Mildred Kain. Those who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Marion Adams and Don, Miss Judy West, and Mr. and Mrs.

Dean Lewis, all of Whiteland, Mr. and Mrs. John Gilmore of Franklin, Mr. and Mrs. Don Sichting and daughters of Bargersville, Mr.

and Mrs. Maurice Kain of Martinsville, Mrs. William Roney, Miss Lottie Parsley, and Ralph Bond. Jacques Rihm returned to Fort Filey, on Tuesday. Rev.

Religious education classes are being conducted for school pupils in the Christian church each Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. The school is open to all fourth and fifth grade boys and girls of the county.
