W. charged with first degree murder in connection with the armistice day shooting here, were arraigned today before superior Judge W. A. Reynolds at Che-halis, the county seat, and given 36 hours in which to plead. Two other alleged radicals, Ole Hansen and John Doe Davis, are numbered among the defendants.

Hansen and Davis, still at large, are being pursued by deputy sheriffs from here. No attorney represented the pris oners today. The defendants will no. be able to retain any Lewis county lawyers, as the local county bar as sociation has passed resolutions barring any of its members from taking part in the defense of the alleged radicals. Viviani May Lead French Deputies By The Associated Press) PARIS, Nov.

20. Rene Viviani, former premier, is to be asked to stand as a candidate for the presi- dency of the new chamber of deputies) against Paul Deschanel, who. It is claimed by the members of the right and center, showed a too lenient at titude toward the extremists and other disturbers during the sitings of the last chamber. LOUIS. Nov. 20. Reduction of freight rates on coal during summer and a sliding scale of coal prices, with lower charges in summer, were advocated today as means of reducing the prices of coal, and increasing production so that miners would have continuous work throughout the year, thereby assisting in allaying industrial unrest at the mines. The suggestions were made in resolutions presented to the American Mining Congress, in convention here.

A resolution was presented to the industrial committee urging authorities "to enforce to the limit, all existing laws that deal with anarchy and seditious utterances and Speakers urged that Congress impose a heavy tariff on "war minerals" imported to this country to enable owners of such mines to com pete better with foreign shipments. The gold conference submitted a resolution- asking Congress to improve roads in gold mining districts, asserting that 90 per cent of the gold mines in the United States virtually were inaccessible. MEXICAN BANDITS TURN TRAINROBBERS SAN DIEGO. Nov. 20.

Bandits are holding up and burning trains near Acapulco, Colima and other west coast Mexican ports, according to officers of the power schooner Newark, which arrived here today from the south. JACK JOHNSON TO FIGHT CARL MORRIS Former World's Heavyweight Cham pion Signs Artlclefi of Agreement for Bout in Mexico. YUMA, Nov. 20. Jack Johnson, former heavy-weight champion of the world, has been matched to fight Carl Morris, of Tulsa, at fan Lius, 14 miles south of here, in Mexica, according to announcement tonight by Al Jones, Yuma boxing promoter. The bout will be held in December, the exact date to be announced later, Jones said.

It would be a finish fight. Both boxers have signed articles and posted forfeits, the promoter asserted. Johnson is expected to train at San Luis and Morris at Yuma. 20. Record breaking crowds are expected to turn out witness the final games of the vesttrn conference football race Saturday. Preparations have been made to handle a crowd of 25,000 for the Chicago-Wisconsin game to be played here. All seats for the championship contest between Ohio and Illinois at Columbus have been sold for several days and standing room is at a premium. The Alichisan-Minnesota game at Aan Arbor will attract a crowd of approximately 30,000.

GRANGERS OPPOSE U. S. OWNERSHIP Resolution Paused Favoring Sale of Mcrchnnt Mnrino Denounce Retention of Railronds. GRAND RAPIDS, Nov. 20.

After a heated debate lasting well into the afternoon', the National Grange, in session here this afternoon, went on record as being unalterably opposed to Government ownership of railroads and against Government ownership and operation of! merchant marine, by adopting the report of the committee of transportation. The resolutions denouncing retention of the railroads in Government control for two years longer against the merchant marine were referred to this committee early the session. The Plumb plan for Government control was also denounced. Quick Sale Urged. The grange went on record as being in favor of the sale of the merchant marine and its operation In private ownership under the same type Government control as Is provided the Interstate commerce commission.

The resolution setting up that present Atlantic freight rates on wheat from New York to Liverpool now over eight times the pre-war rate and demanding a reduction of these tariffs was also passed. WORLD CONFERENCE OF CHURCHES PLAN NEW YORK. Nov. 20. A preliminary meeting to arrange for a world conference of all Christian churches be held next year, probably at Geneva, Switzerland, the North American counsel to propagate a union of Christan communions decided in meeting here today.

Bishop Charles P. Anderson of Chicago who presided, announced that the churches the near-east, which he recently visited, were ready to Join in such a conference. Bishop Anderson declared that virtually all Christian communions except Rome, which refused, and Germany and the other central powers, which had not been approached, had agreed to join in a world conference.
