Wednesday, December 21, 1949. The Terre Haute Tribune. BEEF AUCTION PLANS MADE Preparations Made for Annual Vigo County Fair Event. Anders of Honey Creek township, and Joe Kurtz, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Howard Kurtz also of Honey Creek tow nship scholarship was presented to him by the Indiana Farm Bureau and the scholarship to Kurtz was presented by the Sears Roebuck and Company. Leon and Joe will start the eight- week short course at Purdue Uru- jversity on January 2. The courses available for their selection will be general agriculture, animal husbandry', dairy production or dairy manufacturing. Fourteen members of the 4-H beef committee completed plans for the 4-H beef auction annually held at the Vigo County Fair. Ray Graham, Prairie Creek township, was elected chairman and Walker Robertson of Sugar Creek township, secretary -treasurer.

The committee also voted to purchase a special by which all 4-H beef can be stamped County 4-H Club Beef The committee voted to Forest John-on to judge the 4-H calves again this year and to eliminate the waives not qualified for the sale while judging the classes. The enrollment for these projects is due in the county extension office by January 1. Powell, twice an unsuccessful candidate for nomination for congressman, today declined comment on destruction of pamphlets he sent to Peoria, 111 schools. The Peoria school board yesterday ordered destruction of two of literature.

Dr. Melvin Davis, superintendent of Peoria schools, termed the free literature sympathetic to the Ku KIux Klan and anti-Catholic The pamphlet was titled Powell said he had distributed between 6.000 and 8,000 copies of issues of his pamphlet. He agreed readily that it was sympathetic to the Klan and critical of the Roman Catholic Church. Powell told a reporter he financed the project himself and asserted he has no connection with any organization. He said he was not certain he could continue publishing the pamphlet because of the expense.

Formerly part owner of a Sullivan automobile agency, Powell has no business connections at present He sought the nomination for congress in 1946 and 1948. GRAIN DEFEATS MEAT FAMINE WASHINGTON. Dec. American consumer now has the best insurance he ever had against a possible meat famine caused by an Agriculture Department spokesman said today. The spokesman pointed to the record high grain supply.

Charges of that nature were made recently in a national publication. The investigation was ordered following the death of 29 elderly patients during a 34-dav period last vear. At that time.

WASHINGTON. Ind Dec. 21 (U.R)—Police reported today that the Ward Jewelry Store was burglarized last night and that thieves made off with about $7,000 worth I of merchandise. Two brothers, nabbed early today near the store, were being questioned. They were identified as Frederick Lee Drake, 19.
