and Mrs. Robert Schumaker, Route 4, is fhe fiancee of John L. Hintz, Adrian, Mich. The announcement of her engagement was made at a party given in Rensselaer by her mother, Mrs. Ruth Schumaker, Rensselaer.

Miss Schumaker is a senior at Indiana State Teachers College. TO WED DEC. Sue Ann LePage is engaged to Robert Beall, according to an announcement made today by Miss parents, Mr. and Mrs. Romeo LePage, Princeton.

Both Miss LePage and Mr. Beall, son of Mrs. Paul Beall, Mattoon, are students at Indiana State Teachers College. A member of the Delta Gamma sorority, she is a junior at the college. FIANCEE OF ROBERT WERTZ, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Donald R. Wertz, 274 Monterey avenue, is Miss Marilyn Menken. Miss Menken is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Fred Menken, Holland, Mich. Their wedding is set for Nov. 26 at the Christian Church in Holland. Following the marriage the couple will live in Schenectady, N. where Mr.

What Women Are Doing Gamma Phi Marks 83rd Anniversary of Founding By Beatrice Biggs Tribune Club News Editor FOUNDER'S DAY 1957 WILL BE of special importance to Gamma Phi Betas throughout the United States, Canada and Hawaii as they observe their 83rd anniversary since the beginning in 1874 at Syracuse University. History shows that Gamma Phi Beta was among six sororities which met in Boston in 1891 for the first an- hellenic meeting. Thursday at 7 o'clock members of the Beta Pi chapter at Indiana State Teachers College will join the Terre Haute alumnae chapter in the ballroom of the Elks City Club for dessert and to pay tribute to their founders and the rich heritage which has been passed down for nearly a century.

Co-chairmen of the celebration are Miss Sara Wilson and Mrs. Daniel R. Williams. Assisting them on the joint function are: Misses Mildred Hixon and Joyce Mason, honors; Misses Opal Edwards and Judith Hill, reception; Misses Nancy Claypool and Donna Seibel and Mmes. Eugene Esperson and Earl M.

Snyder, decorations. Local alumnae will for the first time distribute a news letter as a contribution to the festivities. The committee which has compiled and edited the publication includes: Miss Jean Archibald and Mmes. William Bitzegaio. Paul Lucas, Lee Perry and Albert Wright.

A special guest to be present for program is Mrs. A. W. Gillespie of Rockford, 111., province collegiate director. Will Honors.

Honors achieved by the Beta Pi chapter will be recognized as will the special contributions to the growth of Gamma Phi Beta by individual alumnae. Acknowledgment will be given the members of the alumnae committees who have given so freely of their time and service to the Greek Letter chapter during the past year. advisory council are Dr. Ruth Runke and Mmes. Charles Compton, George VanDusen, and Albert Wright.

Misses Jean Archibald. Helen Birlingmier, Gertrude McComb and Margaret Turk, and Mrs. Waldola Wasson have served on the rushing committee. Mistresses of ceremonies for the celebration will be Mrs. Charles Callahan, president of the alumnae chapter, and Miss Alice Hochgesang, president of the collegiate chapter.

There will be group singing of the sorority songs and Miss Virginia Nichols will entertain with a solo. Closing the program will be the traditional ritual performed by the active members. Miss Edith Shadley is directing arrangements for the service and will be assisted bv Misses Sandra Garver, Judith Hughes, Gail Irwin, Nancy Lyons, Joyce Mason, Barbara Menaugh, Sally Walters and Barbara Wilson. Day is observed annually during November throughout the 63 college chapters and 164 alumnae chapters. Active alumnae chapters in Indiana are located in Bloomington, Evansville, Indianapolis, South Bend and Terre Haute.

SORORITY PRESIDENT HONORED AT DINNER Mrs. Dorothy Kline, president of the Omicron chapter of the Phi Beta Psi sorority, was honored by a surprise dinner party at the Elks Club. They are now in Acapulco and plan to return to Indiana on Nov. 22. Mrs. George 0. Perry, South Center street, has returned trom a month in Morris Plains, N.

Perry and three children, Susan, Billy and David. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Harris, Ohio boulevard, have with them for the weekend their daughter, Miss Mary Harris, a freshman at Ladywood School, Indianapolis. Miss Harris, who led her class in scholarship for the first term, recently was elected class president.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Osborn, 2204 Locust street, announce the birth of a daughter, Cheryl Diane, on Nov. 8 at St. Anthony Hospital Mrs.
