i Frank W. nicer, a former presl dent of the Chamber and one of the leading paving contractors of tha liny dibtrict. told the commit fe tliut he heartily approved of the- expansion program and would work durinc the drive, following the annuul community dinner on May I. In his remarks favoring the In-(liiHtrlal promotion fund, Kilgcr said: "The support accorded the Oakland Chamber of Commerce In the punt Is pitiful when we consider how dependent the city Is upon the institution for Industrial expansion. JndUHtrin! leaders everywhere are looking to the 1'aclflc Coast for new and Improved markets and unless we can get Oakland before these men, many Industries will locate elsewhere without knowledge of the opportunities, advantages and attractions that tha Kant bay has for Industrial enterprises.

If tha business men appreciated the handicap under which tha organization has been laboring, the mutter of Increased support would cease to be a problem. The trouble is we havo given too little attention to the organization and as a result our growth Is lens rapid from an Industrial standpoint than it should be. The organization can count on my hearty support in this campaign." Eastbay hardware men held a meeting in mld-af ternoon to hear the general program outlined and following which they endorsed the movement and arranged' to organize a special committee to raise additional money in the hardware group. Perry C. Frey, hardware dealer of East Oakland will head the campaign committee and according to a statement made by him to the Chamber of Commerce can count upon several hundred dollars additional revenue over what was given last night by the group.

And like the historic Don, Stanley attempted to conquer somethings that was1 unconquerable, namely a 40-horse-power truck, Stanley and his companions had been searching all day for something on which to test their courage, strength of arm nnd keenness of vision. A decided lack of knights In armor, wild Indians, wolves, buffalo and other dangerous foes made adventure hunting and juvenile warfare a dull pastime. Finally Stanley hit upon an idea. Seizing his trusty lariat in his strong right arm the boy lay in ambush behind a "House for Sale" sign and kept his eyes "peeled." A truck rumbled' by. Dashing out with a war whoop on his lips the intrepid young adventurer swung the lariat and sent it st urging through the air.

When' the rope settled over one end of the rear bumper Stanley bracde himself to "bulldog" the fruelc. The snorting thonnter was not to be outdone, however, and with a healthy chug pulled Stanley off his feet, dragging him along the ground. When the rope finally slipped from the boy's wrist it took with it several inches of skin and part of a thumb. Hurling a final caustic challenge at the truck driver ribune Day Was Tuesday) SPOUTS.
