Four THE PRESS- GAZETTE, HILLSBORO, OHIO Tuesday, October 28, 1947 Social Happenings Personals News of Interest to Women Esoteric Club Meets With Mrs. Durnell The members of the Esoteric Club were entertained by Mrs. Donald Durnell, Thursday, when she invited them to her home on North High Street for luncheon and the regular meeting. At one o'clock the guests were seated at the dining room table and at small tables in the dining rsom for the service of the delicicus luncheon. The table was tered with fall flowers and foliage.

Covers were laid for 15 guests. the luncheon. the president, Mrs. J. W.

Bowen open: ed the meeting and conducted the business. The program was very interesting and consisted of a paper by Mrs. Ervin Evans entitled "Religion in the Post War World;" Mrs. J. W.

Bowen gave a paper on the "Views of the Federation;" Mrs. Robert McMullen gave a paper on the "Chicago Tribune and Indiana and Illinois." Mrs. Hugart McMullen of Cincinnati was a guest of the club for the afternoon. Past Councillors Meet The Past Councillors of the Daugthers of America Lodge met at the home of Mrs. Thomas Carey Wednesday night for the regular meeting.

The president, Mrs. O. E. Teboe opened the meeting and conducted the business. Mrs.

Wallace Vance read the scripture. Bingo was played and each one received a prize. The hostess served a delicious salad course at the conclusion of the business session. Those present were. Mrs.

O. E. Teboe, Mrs. Pearl Rooney, Mrs. Elsie Davis.

Mrs. Wilbur Justice, Mrs. Myrtle Insley, Mrs. Carey and Bernice Justice and Jean Ann Allen. Mrs.

and Mrs. Theodore Shaffer of Pricetown are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Virginia, to William B. -Nickell, son of Mrs. Ethel Nickell. The double ring ceremony was solemnized by Rev.

Floyd Smith at his home, Sunday, October 26, in the presence of immediate relatives. The bride wore a wine costume suit with black accessories and a shoulder corsage of white roses. Mrs. Chester Shaffer was the bride's only attendant and she was attired in brown with brown accessories and a shoulder corsage of yellow mums. Chester Shaffer served as best man for the groom The bride is a of Lynchburg High School, 1, Ohio Western Business University Dayton Comptometer School and is employed in salary payroll department at Delco Products, Dayton.

The groom, a graduate of Hillsboro High School, attended TriState Engineering College at Angola, was four years the Army, serving 21 months in the European Theatre and is completing his engineering, degree at the University of Cincinnati. Ridgeway Centerville. Bridge Club Meets Miss Mary Ellison entertained the members of her bridge club Thursday night, when she invited them to her home on Elm Street for the regular session. Two tables of bridge were formed and after several rounds of this pleasant diversion, scores were tallied and a prize for high score was awarded to Mrs. John Adams. A dessert course was served at the small tables at the conclusion of play.

Mrs. Frank Johnson was a guest of the club for the evening. A 6 pound 2 ounce daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDowell at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Friday morning, October 24, at 4 o'clock.

Stockwell conducted two interesting. contests, Mrs. Truman McConnaughey and Mrs. Pfister winning prizes. The hostesses served delicious' refreshments from tables prettily decorated in keeping with the Hallowe'en season.

Coterie Club Meets Win Lucas Coterie Club members motored to the country home of Mrs. George Lucas, near McCoppin's Mill, Wednesday night for the regular meeting. Mrs. H. A.

Predmore, the president, had charge of the business meeting. It was unanimously voted to give $10 to the P. T. A. milk fund.

Mrs. H. E. Barnes gave a review of Stewart Johnson's recent talk here, supplemented by excerpts from his articles which have appeared in the local paper. Following adjournment the hostess served a delicious salad course, buffet style from the dining room table.

Vari-colored chrysanthemums and lighted tapers formed the attractive centerpiece. Entertains Bridge Club Mrs. Philip Hughes was hostess to members of her bridge club Thursday night, when she invited them to her home on North High Street for the regular session. Three tables were in play and several rounds of this interesting diversion 1 enjoyed by the club. When scores were tallied prizes were awarded to Mrs.

Walter Shanon, Mrs. Harold Henry and Mrs. W. E. McCann.

A dessert course was served at the small tables at the conclusion of play. Guests of the club for the evening were Mrs. J. N. Chaney, Mrs.

F. A. Johnson, and Mrs. James Ruble. Woman's Auxiliary A special meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary of St.

Mary's Episcopal Church was held at the home of Mrs. J. Watkins on Thursday, October 23. Plans were outlined by Mrs. Elsie Chaney, the president, for a Food Market to be held on Saturday, November 1, at the Evans Furniture Store.

All women of the church were to be contacted for supplies for the sale. Ten of the members present expressed their desire to attend the Diocesan Convocational meeting for women at Calvary Church on Wednesday, October 29. Mrs. E. D.

Patterson and Miss Chloe Siders returned home Wednesday evening from a visit with relatives and friends in New Albany, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tolle of Ft. Meyers, are visiting the latter's mother, Mrs.

Everett T. Shanks, son of Mrs. Blanche Shanks, of Dayton andi Sinking Spring. The marriage was solemnized at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Hopkinsville, on Friday evening, July 25, 1947, at seven o'clock. The Rev.

Walter Chestnut, pastor of the church, performed the ceremony. The bride wore for her wedding an original model in black and white crepe de chine, with black picture hat, in black. She wore an orchid corsage. The couple was attended by Miss Marjorie Fooshee, of Golden Pond. and Mrs.

Jack Westall of Columbus. Feoshee wore a two piece black dress, with black accessorlies. Her corsage was of yellow rosebuds. Mrs. -Westall wore printed crepe model with black accessofies.

Het corsage was of white gardenias. The groom was attended by Dr. Joseph P. Abraham of Falmouth, and Mr. Jack Westall of Columbus.

The bride is a graduate of Butler. High School, Princeton, and attended Girl's College of Aviation, Washington, D. C. For the past four years she has been employed by the Veterans' Administration, D. and Outwood, Ky.

Mr. Shanks graduated from Sinking Spring High School and attended Dayton University. For several years he had been employed by the Veterans' Administration at Dayton, Ohio, Outwood, and is now at Ft. Thomas, as Deputy Supply Officer. They are making their home at Quarters 28, V.

A. Hospital, Ft. Thomas, Ky. Royal Neighbors Meet The regular meeting of the Royal Neighbors of America will be held at their Hall Tuesday evening, October 28, with a pot luck supper, at 7 P. M.

All members please attend. Miss Mary K. Dunlap of Columbus spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Ruth Dunlap. 44 Entertained At Snow Hill Club Mrs.

Harold Henry and, Mrs. Frank Hiestand were hostesses to a group of friends when they entertained at Snow Hill Country Club on Saturday afternoon. Forty-four. guests found their places marked at small tables for the tempting two course luncheon. Each table was centered with a doll dressed to represent different characters suggestive of the Hallowe'en season.

There were ghosts, witches, Indians and many other, a elicited many compliments from the guests. The pleasures of the luncheon hour continued throughout the afternoon in the spirited bridge games which were contested at 11 tables. Prizes were awarded Mrs. Don Sams, Mrs. Norman Stephens, Mrs.

John Towle, Mrs. Wesley Taylor and Mrs. William Mock. Miss Mary K. Dunlap of Columbus; Mrs.

John Mertz and Mrs. James Daniels of Greenfield were yout-of-town guests for the party. Luncheon-Bridge Held at Wilmington Mrs. Burch D. Huggins and Mrs.

Blair Boyd combined hospitalities when they assembled guests to the Swiss Manor at Wilmington for a luncheon and afternoon of bridge Friday. Covers were marked for 40 guests at small attractively appointed tables, for the service of the delicious luncheon. Colorful flowers were used in the decorations. The pleasures of the luncheon hour continued throughout the afternoon in the interesting bridge games. Ten tables progressed and at the conclusion of play prizes were awarded to Mrs.

The call to order by the president, Helen Martin, was followed by all repeating the Lord's Prayer. Roll call was answered by naming one's favorite season of the year, brought response from 13 members.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Letha Storer, and- approved as was the treasurer's report by Opal Thompson. After some discussion, a check for $25 was, made a out do the Mt. Logan" Sanitarium in answer to the plea for donations published in the local papers. Plans for a Thanksgiving treat to the county home were outlined. This will be a change from usual Christmas visit there.

At Christmas, we are planning a party for members and their families, and we are asking that names of needy children be given to our chapter. In the near members will meet with the Chillicothe chapter and visit the Veterans' Hospital there. A plaque was chanced off among members netting the club $1.30, Mrs. George Runyon donating the gift and Mrs. Wendell Collins, the lucky winner.

The meeting closed with prayer. While members enjoyed a SOcial period, the hostess, assisted by Martha Collins, served a delicious dessert course. Bidding Mrs. Collins goodbye and expressing thanks for a lovely time, members departed for their homes. The next meeting will be Oct.

31, at the home of Helen Martin, Willettsville road. Dinner-Bridge At Stanforth's Thursday Mrs. Richard Starbuck and Mrs. Charles Limes entertained with a dinner at. Stanforth's Restaurant on Thursday evening.

Guests were seated at two long tables arranged in the private dining room for the service of the delicious twocourse dinner. Orange and black was the 'predominant color scheme in the attractive table decorations, with pumpkins, lighted orange tapers and other motifs effectively used. Following to the Starbuck home for bridge. Four tables of players progressed during the evening and scoring trophies were awarded to Mrs. H.

E. Barnes, Mrs. H. G. Wilkin and Mrs.

J. Wiler Harrold entertained a number of friends at their home on East Walnut Street Wednesday night. The party honored Miss Mary Harrold, who left Saturday for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.

D. Harrold, near Wooster. She will leave there Monday for Perry Jones General Hospital, at Battlecreek, where she will await a call from the Army, which she is entering as a nurse. There were 25 guests. Refreshments were served from the dining room table, which was centered with fall flowers and lighted tapers.

Oakley Davies of Columbus spent the week- end with his mother, Mrs. R. O. Davies. Bridge Club Meets Miss May Jane Davies entertained members of her bridge, club, when they met at her home on East Beech Street Friday night for their regular session.

The guests were seated at the dining room table for the service of the delicious dessert course. The table was decorated in Hallowe'en symbols and covers laid for nine guests. Two tables of bridge were in play and after several interesting rounds, scores were. tallied and prizes awarded to Mrs. Aulbin Hedges, Mrs.

Lawson Wiggins and Herschel Swissmelm. Mrs. Lawson Wiggins of Columbus, was among the guests. Mrs. Byron Rogers spent the week-end with Miss Marie Ware, at Columbus.

Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Emery returned home Sunday from a trip to the Smoky Mountains.
