father who knows his own daughter can sing better than just about anybody else hey age I think I can offer some pertinent comment on the Presidential off the pen "billet upbraiding music critic Paul Hume for pan ning Washington con cert Just to make it cleir at the start how highly I regard the daughter I would like to say that in my book Margaret Truman is good singing or silent father Harry has no other child and I happen to know that Mar garet has taken the place ot both daughter and son I know just how proud the President is of a wonderful girl who indeed is a mighty fine example for Ameri can youth today I haven't personally discussed with the President his red hot reaction to the criticism but I think I have a pretty good idea of how he felt about the flippant treatment of daughter Margaret's stage appearance and musical performance In the first place nobody heed attend a concert unless he wants to In the second place if he ac cepts a ticket and access to the best seat in the house he could at least say something good or keep his mouth shut This situation reminds me of a recent experience with my daugh ter Kay another slim blonde girl who likes to sing During Thanksgiving holidays Mrs Kerr Bill' and I spent the week in Boston be near Kay who is a student at college and I attended several of her classes The one I enjoyed most was the period of her choir practice There were about 60 girls singing but it was amazing how easy it was for me to pick out the best singer in the group I thought Kay was'wonderfuL I never will forget how much I enjoyed hear ing her sing although the pro gram was put on by the whole choir I sure am glad there was some fellow sitting in a press section trying to find flaws either in her appearance or hef voice Therefore I know just how easy it was for Harj Truman to resent the critical and really un kind newspaper story about Mar singing I am of the opinion however that of from the irate father would have been a more effective treatment of the incident than what he gave it I never in all my life heard of an article which had been seen or read by so few called to the attention of so many I am persuaded that Mr Hume would have died peacefully in the same anonymity in which he lived so had he not been kicked into national promi nence by the very hu man very natural but very plain spoken correspondence with him GOOD NEIGHBORS: I am mighty happy to report that two of our good neighbors a native Oklahoman who moved to Ari zona after World War I and a son of Texas are in line for powerful positions on Capitol Hill come January Sen Ernest Mcarland of Arizona who was bom on a farm near Earlsbrfw Oklahoma and Sen Ly ndah of Terras now appeii eartw to be select ider and Assis western Senators io behind this pair able lawmakers who ilwt a a middle of the bsfWislation satisfactory to the Administration and lern Democrats Mcarland with the Administration 86 per cent of the time in this Con gress but he fakes an indepen dent attitude for states rights Mcarland officially represents Arizona but he has an Oklahoma background that makes him keen ly interested in the problems of our state It will mean a great deal to our state to have this powerful friend at the helm of the IT Senate Johnson a big genial brunet Texan who can also turn on the charm in behalf of his friendly neighbors has fought consistent:
