The contract for the construction lias been let to D.

J. Duncan, of Cumberland, who is not only to build the road, but is to remain with us and operate it after its completion. He is a hardy, clear headed, energetic Scotchman, and has built and operated the road in that city, which is similar to the proposed lines here. He is now in Buffalo to purchase the ties and poles for the new line. Our people will be interested in the construction of the road.

This is to be done by a trench dug through the center of the streets, 18 inches deep and eight feet wide. At the bottom of this trench will be a layer of gravel on which the ties will rest, and with which they can be tamped. It will be 16 inches from the bottom of the tie to the top of the rail. Between the rails and a foot on each side it is to be paved with brick, whenever the city shall be ready to pave. This pavement the company is to put in itself.

It builds of brick because it is easy to remove in case of needed repairs. The width between the rails is exactly that of a wagon and the flange gives a foundation for a carriage wheel better than any pavement. It will be in operation by the Fourth of July. The Fifth "Ward. It is founded upon the needs of the public, and hence is popular with the public.
