Miss Kate Totton, eldest daughter of Mr. W. Totton, of this Borough, is a most chaxmio lady in all and every respect, and was the centre of a large circle of acquaint ances, and while she carries the best wishes of all into her North-Western home she will be adly missed from the domestic and social circle. The bride was the recipient of many hand-ime presents, both useful and ornamental, such as paintings on satin, plaques and fine needlework and embroidory, tokens of love nd admiration. Shannon, wife of Victor Shannon, and formerly a resident of Shippensburg, met her death on the railroa at Harrisburg, Saturday morning of last week. The Cumberland County Ag'icultural Society proposes to make the poultry display at their coming fair, next summer, a special feature, and the officers have already invited competition from all sections. Samuel Hollabaugh, of Mifflin Township, died very suddenly on Friday He was ap parent ly in good health at the time of bis death. While sitting ia the house he suddenly fell from his chair and instantly expired. Martin Herman, a well known citizen of near New Kingston, died suddenly of apo plexy, Tuesday, while carrying corn at bis brother's residence.

His age was sixty years. He leaves a wife and seven children. He had been in delicate health for some time. The death of William Hershman, an old and esteemed citizen of Mechanicsburg, took place on Wednesday of last week, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Stambaugh, after a prolonged illness, in hii HOtb year.

Willis Klink, of Newville, has begun suit aganist the Commercial Union Fire Insurance Company, of New York, and the London Insurance Company for damages incurred by the recent fire. Mr. link's policies lapsed some time ago, but the agent of these companies was directed to renew and told Mr. Klink be had done so. Mr.

Klink was surprised to find recently that his policies were dead through the negligence of the agent, although the agent assured him since the fire hat the policies had been renewed. U. was well attended, and the exercises were of a highly Interesting and pleasing character. The programme was a rare treat, consisting of essays, recitations, dialogues and music. A little two-year old daughter of Mr. B.

F. Heberlig died on Sunday evening last of pneumonia. More than a year ago this little child got something In its windpipe, from the effects of which she suffered much pain. A party of young ladies and gentlemen, to the number of twenty-two, of Shippensburg, took advantage of the good sleighing and moonlight, and drove to Chambereburg, Wednesday evening. Stopping at the Washington House, they partook of a sumptuous supper, prepared by mine host Shank. After supper the dining room was cleared of the tables, when tht company passed the eveoing "tripping the light fantastic toe." to the muf-ic of Rainick's orchestra. m. MlasSuan Itussel died Thanksgiving Day, at the home of her sister, Mra. C. C. Armor, in Lauehlintt)wn, Westmoreland County, at the age of eighty-three years.

While yet young she removed with her parents from Ireland and settled ia the Cumberland Valley. She was a member of the Shippensbuig Presbyterian Church. After living in Ship pensburg for some years, she removed to Dickinson and made her home with her brother William. At his death she went to the western portion of the State. She was a devout Christian woman.

The anniversary of Mr. David Kitzuniller and wife was celebrated at their home, at Stoughstown, on Monday. There were seventy-sis guests present. A number of hymns were sung and an address was delivered by Rev. J.

Kistler, of Carlisle. After the exercises were ovt and hearty congratulations had been given, the guests sat down to a substantial dinner. Among the guests were Mrs. 8u-an Rebuck, fister of Mrs. Kitzmil'er, and Rebecca Kitzmiller, who had been present at the marriage fifty years before.

The aged couple have nine children living, forty one grand-children and three great-grand-children. Death of Dr. W. Bf Withnrtpoon, After an illness of great severity, extend ing over a per'rid of two weeks. Dr.

W. M. Witherapoon died at his residence, in this Borough, Wednes lay evening about nine o'clock. The Doctor was a native of St. Thomas Township, Franklin County, and after reaching manhood, read medicine with Dr.

Sussemtte, in Chambereburg, and attended lectures and graduated at the Medical College of Ihe University of Pennsylvania, at Philadelphia. He commenced the practice of medicine In Shippensburg about twenty years ago, and was quite successful In bis profession It may be ssid, wl truth, that his final sickness was largely duo lo over exertion in lixiking after the condition of bis patients. Dr. Witherspoon was marriod in December. 1S1, to Miss Flora Bridges, daughter of Mr.

John Bridges, of this Borough, but leaves no issue. He was a communicant of the Presbyterian Church, and was an honest, upright Christian gentleman. He command ed the respect of all win male his acquaintance, and in his profession he ranked among the foremost. He was a member of the Lodge of Free Mason in this Borough, and was Dublic spirited and entei prising. It may he of interet to many to know that Ur.

Witherspoon was a Direct oescena ant of Dr. John Witherspoon. the first pres ident of Princeton (Jollege and a signer of of the Declaration of Independence. Throughout his illness, from the date of his prostration, bis ce was In the hands of Dr. Schoch.
